Ogun Police Debunk Kidnap Allegation, Confirm ‘Suspects’ as Serving Officers on Official Duty

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that normal traffic flow has been fully restored along the Abeokuta Expressway at the Bara area near Sagamu Interchange, following an earlier disruption.

The Command said the incident was caused by an altercation between community members and trailer drivers, which resulted in a temporary blockage of the road.

According to police authorities, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR directed the Area Commander, Owode Egba, alongside Divisional Police Officers within the axis, to immediately intervene and ensure the clearance of the road.

Traffic has since been restored, with normalcy returning to the affected area, while investigations are ongoing to determine the immediate cause of the clash and prevent a recurrence.

The Command reassured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining safety, law and order, and ensuring the free flow of traffic across the state.

The National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS has honoured the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, as one of 45 Distinguished Nigerians at its 45th anniversary celebration.

The event, held on April 17, 2026, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, attracted dignitaries from academia, government, and civil society.

Presenting the award, NANS President, Olushola Oladoja, commended her for exemplary leadership, commitment to academic excellence, and contributions to advancing research, innovation, and human capital development.

NSCDC Busts Baby Factory in Badagry, Rescues 28 Victims, Arrests Two

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Lagos State Command, have uncovered and dismantled a suspected baby factory in Badagry, rescuing 28 victims and arresting two suspects linked to the operation.

The State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, made this known while addressing journalists on Friday, April 17, 2026, noting that the operation followed a three-week intelligence-driven surveillance in the area.

According to him, the facility, located in Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1, Olorunda area of Badagry, was raided during an overnight operation between April 15 and 16.

Keshinro said the suspects allegedly used a Facebook account to lure pregnant women, offering between ₦500,000 and ₦1 million in exchange for their babies after delivery.

A total of 28 victims were rescued from the premises, including 17 heavily pregnant women, one adult male, and 10 children, including infants. Preliminary findings also revealed that one of the victims lost her pregnancy due to the poor and unsafe conditions at the facility.

Items recovered from the scene include a pumping machine, generator set, six standing fans, two gas cylinders, a burner, large cooking pots, five Android phones, mats, and assorted food items.

The Commandant condemned the operation of such facilities, describing it as inhumane and criminal, and warned that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.

He added that both the suspects and victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further investigation and appropriate action.

Keshinro reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to leveraging intelligence and technology to combat human trafficking and related crimes, assuring the public that all those involved would be brought to justice.

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, has commended the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, LNSA for its operational efficiency and adoption of a community-driven policing model.

Ogunsan gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters, where he was received by the General Manager, Ifalade Oyekan, alongside top officials.

The visit, described as high-profile, featured a ceremonial guard of honour for the LSSTF boss, who was also decorated with the LNSA Medal of Honour and presented with a commemorative lapel pin in recognition of his contributions to strengthening Lagos’ security framework.

During an inspection tour of the agency’s facilities, Ogunsan examined a range of modern security assets, including surveillance drones and body-worn cameras deployed to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response operations.

Speaking after the tour, he praised the agency’s grassroots-oriented policing structure, noting that its strength lies in officers who operate within their communities.

“The strength of the LNSA lies in its people-oriented approach. Having officers who live and serve within their communities builds trust, enhances intelligence gathering, and ultimately strengthens public safety,” he said.

How FirstBank Invests in Talent, Builds Future Leaders

First Bank of Nigeria has partnered with the Ekiti State Government to launch the Innovation Enterprise Support Fund, an initiative aimed at empowering startups and driving innovation-led economic growth in the state.

The programme, announced in Lagos, is designed to provide funding, mentorship, and market access to high-potential enterprises, with a focus on strengthening Ekiti’s innovation ecosystem, creating jobs, and supporting youth, women, and underserved communities. At least 40 per cent of the fund has been earmarked for female-led businesses.

Structured as a three-phase initiative, covering ideation, pre-acceleration, and acceleration, the programme is expected to support about 60 startups. Beneficiaries will receive funding ranging from ₦150,000 to ₦1.2 million to enable product development, revenue generation, and market expansion.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has held a strategic security meeting with Commissioners of Police in Lagos State and Ogun State, reiterating the directives of the Inspector-General of Police and mandating strict compliance.

The meeting, held at the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, reviewed prevailing security challenges, crime trends, and operational strategies across both states.

AIG Jimoh emphasised intensified operational alertness, intelligence-led policing, and improved coordination, alongside the deployment of technology and rapid response systems to tackle violent crimes and emerging threats.

He also called for heightened vigilance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The AIG stressed the importance of proactive and community-based policing, urging stronger collaboration between commands and other security agencies, as well as enhanced surveillance patrols and targeted operations against criminal hideouts.

As part of new directives, he ordered an immediate halt to the transfer of cases from state commands to the zonal headquarters, stating that complaints should be handled at the state level, with zonal support where necessary.

He further warned officers to maintain professionalism, noting that misconduct would attract strict disciplinary action.

He cited the recent dismissal of five inspectors over human rights violations as a clear signal of zero tolerance for indiscipline.

The Commissioners of Police in both states, in their remarks, reported improved conduct among personnel and pledged continued adherence to directives.

AIG Jimoh also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for providing logistics and support that have contributed to reduced crime rates.

He equally appreciated the governments of Lagos and Ogun states for their support in strengthening police operations through provision of equipment and training.

The AIG concluded with a directive to intensify round-the-clock patrols, stop-and-search operations, and prompt investigation of crimes, while ensuring transparency and public trust.

UNILAG VC Says New Maritime Institute Building Will Boost Nigeria’s Blue Economy

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Folasade Ogunsola, says the newly commissioned NIMASA–University of Lagos Institute of Maritime Studies multi-purpose building will strengthen Nigeria’s blue economy by enhancing maritime training, research, and manpower development.


Speaking at the commissioning of the facility donated by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Ogunsola said the institute has already trained over 2,000 students and will continue to support industry growth through specialised programmes.


She commended the Federal Government and NIMASA for their support and expressed optimism that the remaining phases of the project would be completed.

Also speaking, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, described Nigeria’s maritime sector as a critical driver of national development, noting that over 90 per cent of the country’s trade is conducted by sea.


Oyetola said the new building represents a strategic investment in human capital and would enhance Nigeria’s maritime competitiveness.


According to him, the future of the maritime industry depends not only on infrastructure and policies but also on skilled manpower, innovation, and collaboration.

The minister disclosed that more than 3,000 young Nigerians have been sponsored for training abroad under the Nigerian Seafarers Development Programme, with over 1,000 already qualified to contribute to the industry.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dayo Mobereola, said the commissioning of the building marks another milestone in efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime sector through capacity development, training, and research.


Mobereola said the project reflects the agency’s commitment under the NIMASA Act 2007 to promote human capital development in the maritime industry.


He added that the agency has partnered with institutions including the University of Lagos, World Maritime University, and the International Maritime Law Institute to bridge the manpower gap in the sector.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, has visited the ongoing 2025 Police Constable Recruitment Screening Centre at the Police College Ikeja to assess the exercise and ensure adherence to established guidelines.

The screening exercise, which began on March 9, 2026, is being conducted at the Ikeja facility in line with stipulated procedures for the recruitment of constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

During the visit, the Commissioner interacted with representatives of the Police Service Commission, Federal Character Commission, and the Police Community Relations Committee, Lagos State Command, who are monitoring the exercise to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility.

Fatai noted that the recruitment process aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to promote a merit-based and transparent system within the force.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation at the screening centre, commending officials and partner agencies for their professionalism and commitment to due process.

The Commissioner also urged applicants who are yet to participate in the screening to do so before the closing date of April 18, 2026, warning that failure to appear within the stipulated timeframe could result in disqualification.

He further reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness throughout the recruitment process.
