The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has lauded the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, citing President Bola Tinubu’s public commendation of the Customs boss as a testament to the confidence reposed in him.
The monarch spoke on Thursday during the annual Eid-el-Kabir gathering hosted by Adeniyi at his residence in Modakeke, Osun State, where traditional rulers, political leaders, senior Customs officers, community stakeholders, family members, friends, and associates converged.
Oba Ogunwusi described Adeniyi’s stewardship of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and his contributions to community development as a source of pride to both the Ife Kingdom and the Modakeke community.
According to the monarch, President Tinubu’s public expression of satisfaction with the Comptroller-General’s performance reflects the trust and confidence placed in his leadership and the results being delivered by the Customs Service.
“We are very proud of him and the work he is doing. When Mr President publicly expressed satisfaction with his performance, it was not a casual statement. It reflects trust in his capacity and the results he is delivering. What he is doing in the Customs Service and in the community shows that he is a unifier,” the Ooni said.
Reaffirming the support of the Ife Kingdom for the Customs chief, the monarch added that Adeniyi’s ability to foster unity and build relationships remains a hallmark of effective leadership.
“He brings people together, and that is what leadership is about. We will continue to stand by him and pray for him,” he said.
In his remarks, Adeniyi expressed appreciation to the Ooni, community leaders, family members, friends, associates, and other well-wishers for their continued support.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as a season that underscores the virtues of sacrifice, gratitude, obedience, and service to humanity, noting that the gathering offered an opportunity to strengthen relationships and reflect on the collective responsibility of building stronger communities and a better nation.
The Customs boss highlighted the achievements recorded by the Service in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, technological innovation, and corporate social responsibility initiatives, all in alignment with the Federal Government’s economic objectives.
Adeniyi said the NCS remains committed to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda through reforms aimed at facilitating legitimate trade, enhancing national security, improving compliance, and stimulating economic growth.
He also noted that the Service has continued to implement community-focused interventions across the country, including educational support programmes, healthcare initiatives, and other projects designed to improve the lives of Nigerians.
The Comptroller-General pledged that the Customs Service would sustain its reform agenda to strengthen operations and deliver greater value to the nation, while maintaining professionalism, transparency, and service excellence.
He further expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and assured Nigerians of the Service’s unwavering support for policies geared towards economic prosperity and national development.
