The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria, has disowned a fake letter claiming that security personnel would be deployed to examination centres for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE for School Candidates.

In a statement issued by the Council’s Public Affairs Department, WAEC described the letter as fraudulent and the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to create panic and disrupt the smooth conduct of the ongoing examination.

The forged letter, dated May 27, 2026, with reference number L/SED/12/DIST/VOL. 4/460, was reportedly addressed to school proprietors and principals.

It falsely claimed that WAEC had concluded arrangements for the “comprehensive deployment” of personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC to all examination centres nationwide from June 1, 2026.

WAEC clarified that the letter did not emanate from the office of the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration, Mr. S.D. Kum, whose signature was also forged on the document.

“The Management of the West African Examinations Council wishes to state categorically that the said letter is fake,” the statement read.

The Council further noted that it had not issued any directive regarding the deployment of security personnel to individual examination centres as stated in the fake document.

WAEC warned that the false information was intended to mislead school authorities, parents, candidates, supervisors, and invigilators while causing unnecessary anxiety around the ongoing examination process.

The examination body, therefore, urged the public to disregard the letter entirely.

“The Council hereby wishes all registered candidates for WASSCE for School Candidates, 2026, the very best in their preparations for the examination,” the statement added.
