NANS Honours LASU VC Olatunji-Bello at 45th Anniversary Celebration

The National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS has honoured the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, as one of 45 Distinguished Nigerians at its 45th anniversary celebration.

The event, held on April 17, 2026, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, attracted dignitaries from academia, government, and civil society.

Presenting the award, NANS President, Olushola Oladoja, commended her for exemplary leadership, commitment to academic excellence, and contributions to advancing research, innovation, and human capital development.

In her acceptance speech, the Professor of Physiology expressed gratitude to the student body for the honour, stating that her foremost responsibility as Vice-Chancellor remains shaping the future of young Nigerians.

She dedicated the award to over 70,000 students of the university, praising them for their diligence and academic excellence.

The recognition reflects Olatunji-Bello’s growing reputation as a people-oriented leader in Nigeria’s higher education sector. Widely known within the university community for her welfare-driven approach, she has earned the nickname “Senior Abiyamo of Nigeria” among staff and students.

Other notable honourees at the event included Adeola Ajayi, Philip Shaibu, Isaac Zeb-Obipi, and Haruna Musa.
