Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has presented a ₦757.9 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly.
With this, he signaled what he described as an accelerated phase of his development agenda as he begins his second term.
The proposed budget, tagged “Changing Gears 3.0: Solution Continues”, represents a 24% increase from the previous year and allocates 79% (₦595.3bn) to capital expenditure, the highest in the state’s recent history. Recurrent spending stands at 21%.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the capital-heavy budget reflects Soludo’s commitment to infrastructure expansion, human capital development, digital innovation, and economic reforms. He noted that Anambra currently ranks number one in Nigeria for fiscal transparency and sustainability.
The state government said over 900 kilometres of roads are under construction, with 600km asphalted within 44 months. Major projects, including eight bridges, the Aroma Link Bridge, the Ekwulobia Flyover, and the new Government House, have eased decades-long infrastructure gaps.
Tourism and urban renewal projects are also advancing, with the Solution Fun City recording over 100,000 visitors in its first three months. A five-star hotel, mega shopping mall, Agulu Lake Resort and Awka City Park are approaching completion.
The administration has recruited 8,115 new teachers, increased school enrolment statewide, and delivered 22 functional smart schools. Thirty new model primary schools and two specialist tertiary institutions are planned for 2026.
In health, the government reports over 161,000 women have benefited from free antenatal and delivery care with no maternal deaths recorded. Four new general hospitals have been completed, 326 primary health centres are being upgraded, and an oncology teaching hospital is in the works.
In 2026, the state plans to commence work on a Mixed-Use Industrial City, three new urban zones, Awka 2.0, Greater Niger, and the Aerotropolis, and accelerate PPP funding for its proposed rail network.
Governor Soludo assured that his administration will sustain its momentum despite economic headwinds, insisting that every community will feel the impact of the renewed mandate.
“Anambra is not just rising; it is sprinting toward its destiny,” the CPS stated, adding that the governor believes “the best is yet to come.”
