Sanwo-Olu Administration Delivers 11 Fire Stations, Expands Emergency Response Capacity

The Lagos State Government has announced the delivery of 11 fire stations under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response and public safety across the state.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by Maria Fadairo, Senior Public Affairs Officer of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, during the commissioning of a new fire station and other infrastructure projects between April 8 and 9, 2026.

The projects were inaugurated on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as part of the state’s broader infrastructure development drive.

Among the key projects is the Tolu School Complex located in Olodi Apapa, Ajegunle, within Ajeromi-Ifelodun. The complex comprises 36 schools, a modern fire station, and a stadium featuring 19 mini football pitches.

According to the statement, the inclusion of a fire station within the educational complex reflects the government’s proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property while promoting community development.

Also inaugurated is a multi-agency complex named after Tinubu, aimed at enhancing coordination among public service and emergency response institutions in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret Abimbola, said the newly commissioned Tolu Fire Station has increased the number of fire stations in the state to 25.

“The Tolu Fire Station brings the total number of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service stations to 25, making it the eleventh to be delivered under the Sanwo-Olu administration,” she said.

Adeseye noted that the figure does not include three stations currently at various stages of completion, with two more expected before the end of the year.

She noted that the expansion would significantly enhance emergency response coverage, particularly in densely populated communities across the state.

The government said the initiative underscores its commitment to building a safer, more resilient, and inclusive Lagos for residents.

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s domestic security manufacturing sector following a strategic engagement with Equipment and Protective Applications International Limited, an indigenous defence and security technology firm.

The meeting, held during a working visit to EPAIL’s production facility along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, focused on potential collaboration and procurement of locally manufactured security equipment for use by security agencies across Lagos.

The LSSTF delegation was led by its Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Ayo Ogunsan, alongside the Director of Administration, Adegbola Lewis. They were received by the Chairman/CEO of EPAIL Nigeria, Kola Balogun, and the company’s Director of Engineering, Olabisi.

Discussions centred on the procurement of high-quality security hardware and protective gear to enhance the operational capacity of security personnel in the state.

The proposed partnership, according to LSSTF, reflects a deliberate shift towards promoting local content development and reducing reliance on imported security equipment. The initiative is also expected to conserve foreign exchange, create jobs, and strengthen Nigeria’s technical capacity in defence manufacturing.

Speaking during the visit, Ogunsan emphasised the importance of leveraging indigenous expertise, describing it as both economically and strategically beneficial.

“Indigenous production enables faster delivery timelines, allows for customisation to local operational realities, and ensures long-term sustainability of security investments,” he said.

Established in 2014, EPAIL Nigeria is regarded as a pioneer in ballistic manufacturing in the country, producing items such as bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, and other defence-grade equipment. The company also provides surveillance systems and infrastructure protection solutions across Nigeria.

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement of its “Operation No Traffic Gridlock” across the state, warning motorists, traders, and transport operators against activities that obstruct free flow of traffic.

The command said persistent gridlock in key areas such as Sango Ota and Sagamu is largely caused by improper parking and roadside trading, describing the situation as unacceptable.

According to the police, offenders engaging in illegal parking, double parking, indiscriminate stopping on roadways, loading and offloading passengers on active lanes, and displaying goods on roads and walkways will face strict enforcement measures.

The command noted that the operation is already in full swing, with personnel from the State Motor Traffic Department, Area Traffic Offices, and Divisional Traffic Units deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance and ease vehicular movement.

Residents and road users in Sango Ota, Sagamu, Mowe, Ifo, and other parts of the state have been urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations. Motorists were advised to use only designated parking areas when picking up or dropping passengers, while traders were directed to confine their activities to approved market spaces.

The police also acknowledged ongoing road construction projects in Sango Ota and Sagamu, stating that while the development may contribute to temporary congestion, compliance with traffic rules would significantly reduce the impact.

It noted that previous traffic congestion in Mowe and Ifo had been successfully cleared and would be sustained through continuous monitoring and enforcement.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has directed full enforcement of the operation, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safety, order, and smooth movement across the state, while urging residents to support ongoing efforts to eliminate traffic gridlock.

Rite Foods Limited has partnered with Atti Theresa Foundation, ATF to deliver a free medical outreach to residents of Ososa in Ogun State, as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare and strengthen community impact.

The outreach, held on March 28, 2026, provided comprehensive healthcare services to more than 400 residents, targeting underserved groups including women, children, the elderly, and low-income households.

The one-day programme offered a range of medical services such as general consultations, eye care with prescription glasses, dental services, physiotherapy, and the distribution of free medications. Beneficiaries also received health education on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.

The initiative aligns with Rite Foods’ EYEC sustainability agenda, which focuses on education, youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and community development.

Speaking on the outreach, the company’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, Dennis Aideloje, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to creating meaningful social impact.

“We are proudly Nigerian, and we truly care about our communities. Our sustainability agenda is built on creating real impact where it matters most,” he said, expressing satisfaction with the turnout and impact of the programme.

A total of 401 beneficiaries were attended to during the outreach, including 18 children, 136 males, and 247 females. Health professionals detected several cases of hypertension, infections, and vision-related conditions, enabling early intervention and reducing the risk of long-term complications.

Also speaking, the founder of ATF, Aprezi Eniye Kelvin, commended Rite Foods for its proactive approach to community wellbeing, noting that strategic partnerships are key to delivering sustainable impact.

“Sustainable impact happens when organisations align around a shared purpose,” he said, adding that the collaboration helped bring essential healthcare services closer to the community.

One of the beneficiaries, Adeola Ogunleye, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that access to free medical consultations, eye care, and medication would have otherwise been difficult to afford.

The outreach also saw active participation from the Bigi Fans Club, whose mobilisation efforts contributed to strong community turnout.

Rite Foods said the initiative not only addressed immediate healthcare needs but also helped build trust and strengthen its relationship with the Ososa community, in line with its long-term sustainability goals.

Access Holdings Plc has warned the public about a fraudulent scheme involving individuals impersonating its Chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, to lure unsuspecting victims into fake investment platforms.

The scammers are reportedly operating a WhatsApp group titled “Value Focus Club 60,” using a Nigerian phone number and the image of the Access Holdings chairman to create an appearance of legitimacy.

According to information made available, the fraudsters falsely claim to offer investment opportunities, a move the company has described as entirely fake and misleading.

Access Holdings clarified that its chairman does not operate any WhatsApp investment group and that the company does not provide investment advisory services through WhatsApp or similar messaging platforms.

The alert was reportedly triggered by a whistleblower who identified the suspicious activity and raised concerns, prompting the need for wider public awareness.

Members of the public have been advised not to engage with the group or share personal and financial information with unknown individuals online. They are also encouraged to block and report the number associated with the scheme to prevent further spread.

The company said efforts are underway to shut down the fraudulent operation, stressing that increased awareness remains crucial in preventing more people from falling victim.

Access Holdings further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all investment-related communications through official channels before taking action.

Ogun Police Debunk Kidnap Allegation, Confirm ‘Suspects’ as Serving Officers on Official Duty

Operatives of the Ajuwon Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects over the alleged murder of a 38-year-old man and an attempt to secretly bury his body in Akute area of the state.

The suspects; Maureen Okirie, 35; Salia Karikari, 15; and Jubril Karikari, 12, were apprehended on Thursday, April 9, 2026, following an anonymous tip-off about suspicious activities in the community.

Police said detectives swiftly responded to the information and arrived at the scene, where one of the suspects was caught attempting to bury a blood-soaked corpse in a shallow grave, in what authorities described as an effort to conceal the crime.

The victim, identified as Stanley Okirie, was found with a severe head injury. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects, said to be relatives of the deceased, were implicated in both the killing and the attempted cover-up.

The suspected murder weapon has been recovered, while the victim’s body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for autopsy.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as cruel, inhumane, and deeply disturbing, particularly as it involved close family members.

He assured the public of a thorough and transparent investigation, stressing that all those found culpable would face the full weight of the law. The police boss also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The command provided emergency contact lines for residents, including the Gateway Shield toll-free number, 0800 000 9111, alongside other emergency numbers.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected robbers and recovered a motorcycle along with other items during a routine patrol in the Idimu area of Lagos.

The suspects; Abdullahi Mustapha, 20; Salisu Sannusi, 30; and Jamiu Sahidu, 26, were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at about 2:00 a.m., along Car Wash Bus Stop near a First Bank branch in Idimu.

Police said the suspects were intercepted while riding on a motorcycle, and a search conducted on them led to the recovery of a machete concealed in their clothing, an army camouflage uniform, four mobile phones, a power bank, suspected stolen cash, and a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number AKD 40 OM.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly specialised in robbing unsuspecting members of the public before fleeing the scene using the motorcycle.

The police said the suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to conclude investigations and ensure they are prosecuted.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
