Police Recruitment Exam Holds April 28–30 as PSC Warns Against Scams

The Police Service Commission,PSC in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has scheduled April 28 to 30, 2026, for the written examination of applicants seeking enlistment as Police Constables.

The examination will be conducted across designated centres in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with only candidates who successfully passed the physical and credentials screening eligible to participate.

Qualified applicants are required to log on to the official recruitment portal from April 24, 2026, to print their Examination Invitation Card, which contains details of their specific date, time, and venue.

Candidates are expected to come along with a pen, their National Identification Number (NIN) slip issued by the National Identity Management Commission, and the printed examination slip. The approved dress code for the exercise is white shorts, a white T-shirt, and white canvas.

The Commission reiterated that the recruitment process is free of charge and cautioned applicants against falling victim to job racketeering or paying money to individuals promising assistance.

It warned that any form of fraud or financial inducement linked to the recruitment exercise would be treated in accordance with the law.

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has formally inaugurated the Nigeria IPv6 Council, signaling a renewed push to accelerate the country’s transition to next-generation internet infrastructure.

Speaking at the inauguration, NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Aminu Maida, described the event as “a defining moment in Nigeria’s digital evolution,” emphasizing the country’s readiness to play a leading role in the future of the global internet.

The Nigeria IPv6 Council, a national chapter of the IPv6 Forum, was originally established in 2014 to promote awareness, coordinate development strategies, and foster collaboration among stakeholders. However, despite years of advocacy, Nigeria’s adoption of IPv6 remains low.

According to global internet registry Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Nigeria’s IPv6 adoption rate stands at about 5 percent, significantly below the global average of over 40 percent.

Experts warn that the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses, coupled with the rapid expansion of emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, makes the transition to IPv6 increasingly urgent.

Maida stressed that IPv6 adoption is now a strategic necessity for national competitiveness, cybersecurity, and economic sovereignty. “This is not a task any single institution can accomplish alone,” he said, calling for coordinated efforts across government, industry, academia, and the private sector.

The newly inaugurated council has been tasked with developing and implementing a National IPv6 Deployment Strategy, including setting measurable targets to significantly increase adoption in the coming years.

Other priorities include establishing monitoring frameworks, driving technical capacity building, promoting public sector leadership in adoption, and engaging private sector stakeholders to remove barriers to deployment.

Chairman of the Council, Muhammad Rudman, highlighted challenges that have slowed progress, including limited funding, low awareness, and continued reliance on IPv4 due to its availability in parts of Africa.

Despite these obstacles, Rudman expressed optimism, noting that Nigeria has already trained a significant number of engineers in IPv6 technologies. However, he raised concerns about talent migration, which has affected local capacity.

He also revealed that while many Nigerian networks have acquired IPv6 addresses, only a fraction are actively deploying them to end users, one of the key gaps the council aims to address.

The council’s roadmap includes nationwide awareness campaigns, certification training programs, and policy development in 2026, followed by broader deployment and enforcement measures by 2027. Long-term goals include achieving at least 30 percent nationwide IPv6 adoption by 2030.

Industry stakeholders believe that successful implementation could unlock economic opportunities, improve internet security, and position Nigeria as a digital leader in Africa.

“This transition is not optional,” Rudman said. “It is essential for Nigeria’s digital transformation and global competitiveness.”

Members of the newly inaugurated council include stakeholders drawn from: Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria, IXPN, National Information Technology Department Agency, NITDA and Nigeria Internet Registration Association, NiRA.

Other are Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, ATCON, Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, ALTON, Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria, ISPON and Nigerian Research and Education Network, NgREN.

Experts such as Mr. Chris Uwaje (Adviser to the Council) and Prof. Ladid Latif (Adviser to the Council – Moroccan) were also included.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, has reinforced the importance of inter-agency collaboration following a series of strategic visits to key military formations across the state.

The visits, conducted on April 22, 2026, saw the Lagos CP engage with leadership of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and Nigerian Navy, as part of efforts to deepen operational synergy and enhance coordinated responses to security challenges.

At the 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja, where he was received by Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi, discussions focused on strengthening existing partnerships in internal security operations and sustaining joint efforts to protect residents.

Similarly, at the 651 Base Service Group Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force in Ikeja, the CP held talks with Air Commodore M. A. Imam on issues including intelligence sharing, professionalism, and operational cooperation.

At the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft in Apapa, the engagement with Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu centred on enhancing collaboration in securing Lagos waterways and improving multi-agency coordination during joint operations.

Speaking during the visits, Fatai emphasised that effective policing in a complex and strategic environment like Lagos requires seamless cooperation among all security agencies. He noted that unified operations, mutual respect, and shared objectives remain critical to safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets.

The CP also commended the Armed Forces for their continued support to the Lagos State Police Command, stressing that such collaboration is essential in combating crime, maintaining law and order, and addressing emerging threats.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders to ensure sustained peace, public safety, and a secure environment for socio-economic activities across Lagos State.

In a statement, the Service clarified that it has not issued any official announcement regarding the cancellation of any recruitment process, stressing that the information did not originate from the agency.

The NCS urged members of the public to disregard the message and avoid spreading unverified information that could mislead prospective applicants and stakeholders.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the Service advised the public to rely strictly on information published through its verified communication channels for accurate and up-to-date updates on its activities.

The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Ayo Ogunsan, has called for a stronger culture of ownership and maintenance of security assets among police officers.

This is as the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, paid a strategic visit to the agency’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

The meeting, held on April 21, 2026, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the LSSTF, with particular emphasis on sustaining the value of investments in security infrastructure across Lagos State.

Speaking during the visit, Ogunsan commended the CP’s leadership style but raised concerns over what he described as a persistent lack of ownership culture among officers handling LSSTF-provided assets.

He noted that while significant resources have been committed to procuring operational tools such as patrol vehicles, communication gadgets, and tactical equipment, their durability depends largely on proper maintenance and accountability by users.

According to him, the absence of this culture leads to rapid depreciation of assets, reduced operational efficiency, and a decline in public trust.

Ogunsan proposed the creation of a dedicated Asset Monitoring Unit within the Lagos State Police Command to enforce maintenance standards, pledging to support the initiative with operational resources, including a vehicle, once established.

Responding, Tijani expressed appreciation for LSSTF’s sustained support to policing in Lagos and acknowledged longstanding challenges related to asset management within the Command.

He assured that steps were being taken to address the issue, including the planned establishment of a monitoring team to oversee the condition and usage of police equipment.

The CP stressed that Lagos, as a cosmopolitan state with a constantly evolving security landscape, requires proactive and adaptive policing strategies to stay ahead of emerging threats.

He also disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has introduced a new Violent Crime Response Unit, with Lagos already indicating readiness for its implementation, while seeking LSSTF’s support to ensure its success.

The visit, attended by senior police officers, ended with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the CP to the LSSTF CEO, symbolising a renewed commitment to partnership, accountability, and improved security across Lagos State.

During a separate visit to the DSS Ogun State Command, the CP held discussions with State Director, R. A. Adelakun, focusing on strengthening intelligence gathering, surveillance, and timely sharing of actionable information to prevent security breaches.

At the Nigeria Immigration Service command, Comptroller Olufunke Yetunde Odusote hosted the police delegation, with talks centred on border security, migration control, and strategies to curb illegal migration, human trafficking, and cross-border crimes.

Similarly, at the NSCDC Ogun State Command, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo received the CP, where discussions focused on the protection of critical national infrastructure, joint enforcement against vandalism, and improved crisis response coordination.

Ojajuni expressed appreciation to the leadership of the various agencies for their continued cooperation, describing inter-agency synergy as a critical pillar for effective policing.

He reiterated the commitment of the Ogun State Police Command to strengthening collaboration, enhancing intelligence sharing, and sustaining joint efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

As the world marks Earth Day 2026, the Africa Make Big Polluters Pay Coalition, MBPP has called on African governments to take urgent and concrete steps to address the worsening climate crisis and protect the continent’s ecosystems.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the coalition said this year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” highlights the growing reality that climate change is no longer a distant threat but an immediate and intensifying emergency.

The group noted that from biodiversity loss and extreme heat to erratic rainfall and rising sea levels, the effects of climate change are already being felt across Africa, despite the continent contributing the least to global emissions.

It warned against what it described as the continued exploitation of Africa’s natural resources under the guise of green transitions, carbon offset markets, and mineral-driven energy projects, stressing that such approaches often replicate historical patterns of inequality.

Reaffirming the polluter pays principle, the coalition called for stricter accountability from multinational fossil fuel corporations, including Shell, Chevron, and ExxonMobil, particularly for their operations in environmentally sensitive regions such as the Niger Delta.

The coalition also demanded an immediate halt to new fossil fuel exploration and a structured, time-bound phase-out of existing infrastructure, alongside stronger governance frameworks that prioritise ecological protection and community rights.

It criticised the increasing commodification of nature through carbon markets and biodiversity offsets, arguing that such mechanisms often allow continued emissions in industrialised countries while shifting environmental burdens to the Global South.

Highlighting the importance of soil health, the group said soils play a critical role in food security, carbon storage, and biodiversity, warning that industrial agriculture, mining, and poorly regulated carbon projects pose significant threats.

The coalition emphasised that meaningful climate action must go beyond symbolic observance and focus on systemic transformation, including ending fossil fuel dependence and promoting community-led and Indigenous approaches to resource governance.

According to the group, achieving global climate goals will require enforceable accountability for major polluters, as well as collective action from governments, communities, and institutions to address the crisis.
