Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, GTCO has expanded its #BeatTheDistance initiative with the distribution of 3,000 bicycles to schoolchildren across six states as part of efforts to improve access to education and reduce transportation barriers for pupils in underserved communities.
The second edition of the programme will see bicycles distributed to beneficiaries in Ebonyi, Jigawa, Benue, Oyo, Akwa Ibom and Ekiti states, building on the success of the inaugural edition launched in 2019.
The initiative is designed to ease the burden of long daily journeys to school, improve attendance, enhance learning outcomes and enable more children to pursue their education without the physical challenges associated with lengthy commutes.
Group Chief Executive Officer of GTCO, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said education remains one of the most effective tools for transforming lives and creating opportunities, noting that the initiative targets students whose determination to learn is often challenged by the distance they travel to school.
“By providing these bicycles, our goal is to reduce fatigue, improve school attendance and create better learning outcomes for children of school age,” he said.
Agbaje added that the initiative reflects GTCO’s commitment to addressing real challenges within communities through practical interventions that promote inclusion, expand access to opportunities and contribute to sustainable development.
According to him, the Group will continue to invest in programmes that empower young people and create conditions that enable them to achieve their full potential.
