Anambra State Government has expressed its readiness to host residents and visitors to a peaceful, secure and vibrant Christmas and New Year celebration, following months of coordinated planning and infrastructural improvements under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, said the state’s readiness for the festive season reflects deliberate governance and purposeful investments across critical sectors, positioning Anambra as an attractive destination for investors, tourists and holidaymakers.
According to Aburime, visible improvements across road infrastructure, security, healthcare, transportation, commerce and tourism have created an enabling environment for an enjoyable festive experience for Ndi Anambra and visitors returning from within and outside the country.
He noted that intensified road rehabilitation works across Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and surrounding communities have significantly improved traffic flow and accessibility, easing movement during the expected seasonal influx.
The upgraded road network, he said, not only supports festive mobility but also reinforces the administration’s commitment to long-term development.
Aburime also highlighted improvements in major markets, including Onitsha Main Market, Ochanja, Eke Awka and Nkwo Nnewi, where sanitation, organisation and access routes have been enhanced to reduce congestion and improve safety. Traders, he added, are fully stocked to meet increased demand, creating a cleaner and more efficient commercial environment.
On security, he said the Soludo administration has strengthened the state’s security architecture through coordinated efforts involving security agencies and community structures. Increased patrols, reorganised checkpoints and enhanced community vigilance have contributed to a more stable atmosphere across urban centres and high-traffic areas, allowing residents to celebrate with confidence.
Healthcare preparedness has also been prioritised, with major hospitals and medical facilities strengthening emergency response capacity to handle potential increases in patient volume during the festive period. Aburime described this as a critical safety measure to ensure uninterrupted access to medical services.
Transportation hubs across the state are operating under improved management, with the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri, recording increased passenger traffic. Major motor parks, including Upper Iweka, Ekwulobia Terminal, Solution Park at Aroma and Unizik Junction, have witnessed better traffic control and more orderly operations.
The tourism and hospitality sector, he added, is already benefitting from the improved environment, with hotels, entertainment centres and recreational facilities experiencing heightened activity. Sites such as Solution Fun City, Agulu Lake, the Anambra Country Club and the newly established Ikenga Mall have undergone upgrades to accommodate increased visitor numbers.
Aburime further disclosed that communities across the state are hosting cultural festivals, carol services and end-of-year events, complemented by a state-backed festive calendar tagged “Onwa Dezemba,” which runs through the first week of January.
He said the collective efforts of government agencies, businesses and local communities have created a general atmosphere of preparedness, peace and organisation across Anambra State.
According to him, the message to residents and visitors is clear: Anambra is ready to welcome everyone home for a memorable, safe and enjoyable festive season, anchored on improved infrastructure, enhanced security, accessible healthcare and a vibrant social environment.
