A multi-agency taskforce comprising the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos and Ogun Sector Commands, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has conducted a special traffic monitoring and operational assessment along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The exercise, which took place on Wednesday, was jointly led by the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, and the Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Oladapo Fasakin.
It was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, improve traffic management, and ensure the safety of motorists during the peak Yuletide travel period.
During the operation, the taskforce monitored vehicular flow, compliance with traffic regulations, roadworthiness of vehicles, and driver conduct along key sections of the expressway. Special focus was placed on lane discipline, illegal parking, speeding, and other traffic infractions capable of causing congestion or road crashes.
Three lane-indisciplined drivers, including an expatriate, were apprehended and sanctioned, reinforcing the zero-tolerance stance of the agencies on traffic violations, regardless of status or nationality.
Speaking at the scene, Corps Commander Hamzat described the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway as one of the busiest corridors in the country, stressing the need for sustained enforcement, visibility, and public compliance to prevent crashes and traffic gridlock. He reaffirmed the FRSC Lagos Sector Command’s commitment to proactive traffic control, public enlightenment, and prompt emergency response.
In his remarks, Corps Commander Fasakin highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration, noting that joint operations enhance enforcement efficiency and public confidence. He assured motorists of continued patrols and monitoring throughout the festive season and beyond.
Officers of TRACE and NSCDC provided traffic control, enforcement support, and security coverage during the exercise, further demonstrating the benefits of coordinated action among traffic and security agencies.
Motorists were advised to maintain lane discipline, avoid reckless driving, obey traffic signs, and exercise patience, particularly during periods of heavy traffic. The agencies reiterated their commitment to ensuring safer roads, reduced crashes, and smoother travel along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
