The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, has stressed the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies, saying no single organisation can effectively tackle today’s evolving security challenges alone.
Ogunsan made the call during the fourth edition of the LSSTF Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme held in Lagos, which brought together personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, NSCDC, FRSC, LASTMA, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Man O’ War and other security organisations.
Speaking through the Director of Administration, Mr. Adegbola Lewis, Ogunsan said emerging security threats require coordinated responses, intelligence sharing, mutual trust and a clear understanding of the roles of various agencies.
“One of the key objectives of this training is to deepen inter-agency understanding and cooperation. No single agency, regardless of its capabilities, can effectively address every security challenge alone,” he said.
According to him, many security successes recorded in recent years were achieved through collaboration among agencies, adding that security institutions must increasingly embrace intelligence-driven operations and proactive partnerships.
A major highlight of the event was a solemn tribute to the late Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Lagos State Police Command, DCP Khan Salihu, who died days before the programme. Participants observed a one-minute silence in honour of the late officer and other fallen security personnel.
Representing the Chairman of the LSSTF Board of Trustees, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Agboola Oshodi-Glover, urged participants to see the training as an opportunity to strengthen relationships across security institutions.
“Law enforcement has become increasingly challenging due to banditry, land grabbing and unusual migration patterns. You must therefore equip yourselves and remain prepared,” he said.
Also speaking, ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem, who represented the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, described the training theme, “Enhancing Professional Capacity, Ethical Standards and Inter-Agency Collaboration for Effective Security Operations,” as timely and strategic.
She noted that continuous training was essential to address emerging threats such as cybercrime, cult-related violence and organised criminal activities.
The programme also featured sessions on cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, ethical conduct and wellness, with experts emphasising the importance of professionalism, cooperation and healthy lifestyles among security personnel.
The LSSTF training programme has become one of the leading capacity-building initiatives for security operatives in Lagos, aimed at strengthening professionalism, operational effectiveness and inter-agency collaboration across the state’s security architecture.
