Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 30 suspected cultists and disrupted an alleged cult initiation procession in Isara-Remo as part of ongoing efforts to combat cult-related activities in the state.
The suspects were arrested on June 16, 2026, during a joint operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Isara Area Command, and Isara Division following intelligence reports that a group had gathered at an uncompleted building for an unlawful meeting involving initiation activities.
Police operatives stormed the location, dispersed the gathering, and arrested the suspects while several others reportedly escaped.
Items recovered at the scene included four vehicles allegedly abandoned by fleeing suspects, a jack knife, a local drum, a sekere (traditional rattle), and bottles suspected to have been used for alcohol consumption.
The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism and other criminal activities.
He urged cult members to renounce cultism and embrace lawful means of livelihood, warning that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious gatherings and activities to security agencies.
