The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC Safe School Club Initiative has commenced in Ogun State with more than 3,000 students receiving sensitisation on safety, drug abuse, cultism and responsible citizenship.
The Ogun State flag off, held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Nawair Ud Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta, brought together senior police officers, PCRC leaders, education stakeholders and community representatives.
The initiative was officially flagged off by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and Finance, ACP Olu Moore Akinmoladun.
The PCRC Ogun State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal, led members of the Ogun State Safe School Club and other PCRC executives at the event.
The initiative was established from the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, and handed over to the PCRC under the leadership of its National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, for nationwide implementation.
Representing the National Chairman at the Ogun State flag off was the PCRC Zone 2 Chairman, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola.
Demonstrating the practical focus of the initiative, Safe School Club members arrived at the school before 7:00 a.m. to assist with traffic management and student safety along the busy Obantoko Road.
Led by the Ogun State Coordinator of the PCRC Safe School Club Initiative, Pastor Olanrewaju Joshua, the members helped control vehicular movement and assisted students in crossing the road safely. The operation continued until about 8:00 a.m., after which the members joined the school assembly for the sensitisation programme.
During the session, students were encouraged to pursue academic excellence, shun drug abuse and cultism, reject negative peer pressure and develop positive aspirations.
Speakers also stressed discipline, good character, responsible friendships, respect for constituted authority and security consciousness.
Those who addressed the students included Akinmoladun, Popoola, Chief of Staff to the PCRC National Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command and State Coordinator of POCACOV, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, and Pastor Joshua.
The choice of Nawair Ud Deen Grammar School for the flag off also had a personal significance, as Akinlabi, the PCRC National Chairman’s Chief of Staff, is an alumnus of the school.
Akinlabi attended the ceremony in full school uniform in a symbolic demonstration of his connection with the institution and his commitment to giving back to the younger generation.
The principals of the junior and senior schools, Mr Olagesin Mohammed Akorede and Mr Alabi Isikilu Adisa, respectively, attended the event, alongside the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association of Nawair Ud Deen Junior Grammar School, Mr Monsuru Bamigbose.
The event also attracted representatives of the police, PCRC and other security stakeholders, including ACP Oni Omololu, Adatan Area Commander, and CSP Akindipe Michael Johnson, Divisional Police Officer, Obantoko Division.
The So Safe Corps also supported the programme, with its Obantoko Divisional Officer, CSC Ogunnoiki Kolade, leading officers of the corps to the ceremony.
Other PCRC representatives included Alhaja Balikisi Ibrahim Olaniyan, wife of the PCRC National Chairman and a Director in the Ogun State Ministry of Lands, Comrade Olurotimi Abatan, PCRC National Treasurer of the Youth Committee, Evangelist Ajibola Jegede, Sagamu Area Command Chairman, and Comrade Tesleem Alaka, Owode Egba Divisional Chairman.
The Ogun State flag off marks the expansion of the Safe School Club Initiative as a platform for collaboration among schools, parents, communities, the police and other stakeholders on school safety, crime prevention and responsible citizenship.
The PCRC said the initiative would continue to promote security consciousness, discipline and positive values among young people while strengthening community participation in protecting schools and students.
