Maritime Stakeholders to Examine Port Modernisation, Trade Facilitation at NNMJ Conference

Nigeria’s port infrastructure, trade facilitation and revenue performance will come under scrutiny as maritime stakeholders gather in Lagos for the Network of Nigeria Maritime Journalists, NNMJ Unity Conference on November 13, 2026.

The conference, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, will examine the performance, policy direction and operational efficiency of the maritime sector under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Barrister Temisan Omatseye, will chair the event, while the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour.

Renowned maritime lawyer, Emeka Akabogu, SAN, will deliver the keynote address at the conference themed, “Seaport Modernisation, Trade Facilitation and Revenue.”

Discussions will focus on modernising seaports, renewing critical infrastructure, improving trade processes and ease of doing business, increasing revenue and curbing financial leakages.

Participants will also examine opportunities for expanding the marine and blue economy, creating employment, strengthening maritime safety and security, and improving Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global maritime industry.

The gathering is expected to attract heads of government agencies, shipping companies, terminal operators, freight forwarders and other stakeholders across the maritime value chain.

NNMJ said the conference would provide a platform for engagement between government and private-sector operators on policies and practical measures to improve port efficiency, facilitate legitimate trade and strengthen the sector’s contribution to economic growth.

The Network also highlighted the role of maritime journalism in promoting accountability, providing informed industry analysis and sustaining public engagement on policies affecting the marine and blue economy.
