The Ogun State Police Command has received three awards at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council’s Golden Jubilee Press Week, with the recognition highlighting its policing activities and media engagement.
The Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, was named a Golden Jubilee Ambassador. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, also received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award.
The celebration, held from October 26 to November 1, 2026, marked 50 years of the NUJ in Ogun State, coinciding with the state’s 50th anniversary. It was themed “Truth, Trust and the Press: Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism.”
Speaking at a panel session during the event, Ojajuni urged journalists to uphold truth, professional ethics and patriotism, stressing the importance of responsible journalism to national development and public confidence in institutions.
The Command’s Shield of Public Safety Award recognised its policing strategies, operational achievements and efforts to protect lives and property.
Receiving the award, Ojajuni attributed the Command’s achievements, particularly those recorded under Operation KOSAYE, to the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, through the Handshake Patrol initiative.
He said the operation was carried out through collaboration between the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands, with support from the governors of both states, strengthening inter-state cooperation against criminal activities.
Ojajuni, who was honoured alongside 49 other distinguished personalities as a Golden Jubilee Ambassador, previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department and Squadron Commander of the 16 Police Mobile Force in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi’s Vanguard of Public Safety Award recognised his contributions to police-public communication, media engagement and public safety advocacy.
The Commissioner dedicated the awards to the Inspector-General of Police and officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their contributions to protecting lives and property.
The Command also commended the NUJ Ogun State Council, led by Chairman Wale Olanrewaju, for the recognition and its efforts to promote constructive engagement between journalists and security institutions.
It reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening media partnerships, public enlightenment, crime prevention and community safety through professional and intelligence-led policing.
