The Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF has reaffirmed that continuous training and stronger inter-agency collaboration are critical to addressing evolving security threats, as it held the fifth edition of its Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme for security operatives across Lagos.
The monthly initiative brought together officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Man O’ War, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and other security and emergency agencies to enhance professional capacity, intelligence sharing and operational synergy.
Speaking at the training, the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said human capacity remains the most valuable asset in any security organisation, stressing that effective policing depends more on well-trained personnel than equipment.
According to him, the monthly programme was introduced to complement the Fund’s support for logistics and operational equipment by ensuring continuous training and retraining of security personnel.
“I strongly believe that people remain the greatest asset of any organisation. Equipment is important, but it is the human being behind every operation that determines success or failure,” Ogunsan said.
He added that the training would continue every month throughout his tenure, describing investment in people as essential to sustaining Lagos’ security architecture.
Ogunsan also urged participants to maximise the opportunity by learning from experienced professionals and strengthening relationships that would enhance collaboration during joint operations.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, commended the Lagos State Government and LSSTF for prioritising human capacity development, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in improving security across the state.
He said officers who had participated in previous editions returned to duty with improved professionalism, competence and commitment, adding that the programme has also strengthened cooperation among security agencies.
Representing the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lagos State Command, Deputy Director of Security Vetting, Mr. Waheed Akande, described the initiative as a timely intervention that promotes knowledge sharing, mutual trust and effective coordination among security agencies.
Similarly, Lagos State Commander of Man O’ War, MC Ayodele Ajayi, said the programme provides a platform for building stronger partnerships and exchanging best practices, noting that today’s security challenges require coordinated responses beyond institutional boundaries.
Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos Command, Apostle Kehinde Showemimo, also praised the initiative, saying continuous training and stronger collaboration between security agencies and communities remain essential to maintaining public safety in Lagos.
