NIMC Arrests Illegal NIN Enrolment Operators, Warns Against Unapproved Centres

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has arrested several operators involved in illegal National Identification Number, NIN enrolment and seized equipment used for unauthorised identity registration during an enforcement operation in Gwagwalada and other locations.

The operation, conducted by the Commission’s Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit (ICEU), targeted illegal enrolment, unauthorised data modification and extortion.

NIMC said the crackdown was aimed at protecting the integrity and security of Nigeria’s National Identity Management System and curbing unethical practices associated with NIN services.

The Commission warned that many challenges experienced by NIN holders result from attempts to bypass official enrolment procedures.

It stressed that initial NIN enrolment must be conducted only at NIMC-approved centres, while data modifications can be completed through its self-service platform at www.nimc.gov.ng.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reiterated the Commission’s zero tolerance for extortion and unethical conduct.

She said NIMC remained committed to providing seamless NIN enrolment services for Nigerians and legal residents.

The Commission also advised NIN holders to download the NINAuth application from the Android Play Store or iOS App Store to access security features, protect their NIN and print their NIN slips.

NIMC urged applicants and existing NIN holders to use only approved channels for enrolment and related services.

For information and assistance, members of the public were advised to visit www.nimc.gov.ng, follow the Commission’s verified social media accounts or call its toll-free line on 0800 0616 462.
