The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him engaging in reckless driving that resulted in a serious road crash.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, was reportedly live-streamed on social media, with the suspect seen driving dangerously before crashing his vehicle, thereby endangering his own life and that of other road users.
According to the Police, the suspect’s actions are being treated as an attempted suicide and a serious breach of public safety. He has since been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Command stated that upon conclusion of investigations, the outcome would be made public and the suspect charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and content creators against using online platforms to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous or unlawful acts capable of endangering lives or disrupting public peace.
The Police reiterated that such conduct would not be tolerated and assured that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
The Command also urged motorists and other road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations, stressing its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining public order across the state.
