The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, trade relations, and diplomatic cooperation as part of efforts to enhance border management and facilitate global commerce.
Adeniyi made the commitment during a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception hosted by the Nigeria Customs Service at its headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on June 3, 2026.
The event brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of diplomatic missions, senior government officials, security chiefs, and members of the Customs management team in a strategic engagement aimed at deepening collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners.
Among those in attendance were the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, and other senior officials from key government and security institutions.
Speaking at the reception, the Customs boss expressed appreciation to members of the diplomatic community for their continued support in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting international trade cooperation with Nigeria.
“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” Adeniyi said.
The Comptroller-General noted that the NCS has continued to expand its international engagement through structured collaboration with more than 20 customs administrations across the world. According to him, these partnerships focus on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and operational cooperation aimed at improving trade facilitation and border security.
He emphasized that effective collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions, and security agencies is essential for achieving efficient border management, enhancing revenue generation, and improving Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global economy.
Adeniyi further stated that modern customs administration operates within an increasingly interconnected international environment, making sustained engagement and mutual trust among stakeholders critical to addressing emerging challenges in trade, security, and compliance.
He added that initiatives such as the diplomatic reception provide an important platform for dialogue, relationship-building, and the exploration of new opportunities for cooperation that can strengthen Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic framework.
The event concluded with networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants, many of whom commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts in fostering stronger institutional partnerships and promoting an enabling environment for international collaboration.
