Lagos DSVA Takes Anti Violence Campaign to Lagos Island

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA has taken its campaign against domestic and sexual violence to Lagos Island, with an advocacy walk aimed at raising awareness and strengthening community action against violence.

The walk, held on Friday, September 11, 2026, was part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

The walk was flagged off by a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Island, Hon. Lara Oyekan Olumegbon, who called for sustained advocacy, community involvement and collective responsibility in tackling domestic and sexual violence.

Olumegbon said ending violence required the active participation of government, communities, families and individuals, urging residents to speak up, report cases and support efforts to protect survivors.

She was joined by Hon. Nurudeen Yunus Abiodun, APC candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Constituency II.

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District IV, Dr Abimbola Bowale, highlighted the role of the health sector in responding to domestic and sexual violence cases.

Bowale stressed the need for survivors to receive timely, compassionate and appropriate care.

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs Titilola Vivour Adeniyi, said the agency remained committed to taking the message of prevention and zero tolerance for domestic and sexual violence directly to communities.

She said the awareness month provided an opportunity to deepen conversations around domestic and sexual violence, encourage victims and survivors to speak up and remind residents of their role in preventing violence and supporting affected persons.

The walk commenced from SURA Primary Health Centre and ended at the Lagos Island Local Government, where the participants were received by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan.

Government officials, stakeholders, advocates, community members and other participants marched through the community with messages promoting prevention, reporting and support for survivors.
