The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of private and commercial jetties and terminals along the Five Cowries Creek to allow for the successful hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament.
According to a statement by the Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, the closure will run from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025. The restrictions are part of safety and security measures to ensure smooth operations during the international sporting event.
On Thursday, October 2, there will be a partial closure from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Full closure will follow on Friday, October 3, from Oriental Hotel to Mekwen Bridge during the same hours.
On Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, the waterways will be completely closed from Falomo Bridge to Oriental Hotel between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
LASWA noted that normal ferry services and operations at the affected routes will resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The authority appealed to ferry operators, passengers, and other stakeholders to use alternative routes and plan their movements in advance. It assured the public that the temporary inconvenience was necessary to protect lives and project Lagos as a world-class destination for global sporting events.
