The Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence, CRPSGBV at Lagos State University, LASU, in collaboration with UN Women has marked the 2025 edition of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

The event, themed “Unite! To End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls”, was held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by the Acting Director of CRPSGBV, Prof. Igot Ofem, delivered the welcome address, commending the turnout and reaffirming the university’s commitment to justice, safety, and dignity for all members of the LASU community.

She stressed that activism is a continuous responsibility requiring vigilance, engagement, and collective effort.

Prof. Ofem, in her remarks, reiterated LASU’s dedication to a safe and inclusive academic environment, urging students, staff, and partners to actively contribute to building a community where respect and protection are prioritized.

The event featured insightful sessions addressing online safety and digital responsibility. Mrs. Omolara Akinyemi facilitated a session titled “Protecting Girls in Digital Spaces,” highlighting the risks young girls face online, including cyberbullying, harassment, and non-consensual image sharing.

She encouraged participants to uphold digital etiquette, respect personal boundaries, and foster empathy in online interactions.

Mr. Bolaji Ojediran, in his session “Boys as Allies: How Young Boys Can Lead the Fight Against Online Violence,” introduced the 3S Rule, stop the spread, Support the target, and Speak up to the source, as a framework for youth to combat digital abuse.

He emphasized the lasting impact of online misconduct, reminding participants that “the internet never forgets.”

Representatives from First Bank of Nigeria, including Mrs. Bukola Ajayi, Prince Oriuwa, Philip Omolaoye, and Rita Ifeanyi-Chukwu, provided practical guidance on financial safety in the digital space. Rita’s session, “Smart Money Moves: Spotting Online Scams,” focused on identifying fraudulent schemes and safeguarding digital identities.

The programme also showcased creative expressions to reinforce its message. Students from Zeka Private School delivered a spoken-word performance highlighting the dangers of digital violence, while The Gifted Arts staged the drama “The Apple,” portraying the consequences of online misconduct and the importance of reporting such incidents to the Centre.

A key moment of the event was the Badging of the Orange Ambassadors, recognizing individuals dedicated to promoting gender equality and advocating against all forms of violence.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Mrs. Akinyemi Olasunbo, Deputy Registrar/Administrative Secretary, who expressed gratitude to all speakers, partners, and participants for their contribution to the success and impact of the initiative.

Fidelity Bank Grows Q1 Gross Earnings by 38% to N434.95bn

This was highlighted during the first oil presentation event for Emadeb Energy, held at Fidelity Place, the bank’s corporate headquarters in Lagos.

At the ceremony, Emadeb Energy’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Adebowale Olujimi, commended Fidelity Bank for its pivotal role in the company’s achievements.

We also led funding for the Pinnacle Oil and Gas Terminal in Lekki, Lagos, which optimizes petroleum product distribution and reduces costs. Additionally, we part-financed the production of a 23,000-cubic-meter Liquefied Petroleum Gas carrier for Temile Development Company Limited, supporting cleaner energy use and strengthening local maritime participation.”

Emadeb Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited, operator of Petroleum Prospecting License (PPL) 236, recently achieved first oil from the Ibom Field, marking a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s upstream sector.

Looking ahead, Olujimi shared that Emadeb Energy plans to drill two additional wells and boost production to 12,000 barrels per day by the end of 2026, followed by further expansion in the gas business and a target of 30,000 barrels per day in oil output.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos State Sector Command has been declared the overall best-performing Sector Command in the country in the 2024 Annual Command Assessment.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, also emerged 1st nationwide among all Sector Commanders for outstanding leadership and operational excellence during the assessment year.

The results were formally announced during the Fourth Quarter Strategy Session held at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, where the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTA, CPFA, FCILT, commended all commanding officers for their roles in advancing the Corps’ safety mandate.

Mohammed charged senior officers across the Federation to intensify operational efforts as the year draws to a close. He stressed the need for heightened visibility, strict enforcement, and uncompromising discipline to ensure safer roads, especially during the high-risk festive period.

“The final stretch of the year requires measurable action. We must elevate performance, strengthen enforcement, and remain focused on saving lives,” the Corps Marshal said.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the Lagos Command, Corps Commander Hamzat expressed gratitude to the Corps Marshal for the recognition. He dedicated the feat to officers and men of the Lagos Sector Command, describing the achievement as a product of teamwork, professionalism, and unwavering commitment.

He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to consolidate its leadership position through enhanced public enlightenment, strategic stakeholder collaboration, and sustained enforcement targeted at reducing traffic crashes and fatalities across Lagos State.

The Lagos Sector Command restated its commitment to advancing FRSC’s core mandate of promoting safer road use, protecting lives and property, and fostering responsible driving culture among road users.

The Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria will on Saturday, December 13, 2025, inaugurate the Board of Trustees of its newly created Ansar-Ud-Deen Foundation.

The event will take place at La Scala Restaurant, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

The Society described the inauguration as an important step in strengthening its long history of faith-based service, education, and community development. For more than 100 years, Ansar-Ud-Deen has promoted Islamic knowledge, moral values and social support across many communities.

The new Foundation is expected to help organise and expand these efforts in a more structured and sustainable way.

According to the President of the Society, Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem, SAN, the Foundation will focus on major areas such as education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and community development. He said it will operate based on Qur’anic principles of charity, fairness and compassion.

Kazeem explained that, “the Board of Trustees will be made up of respected men and women who have shown integrity, vision and dedication to service. He said the Foundation will act as a permanent endowment to support key projects of the Society.”

One of its main responsibilities will be the renovation and maintenance of Ansar-Ud-Deen mosques nationwide. “Our mosques must be accommodating and welcoming. We must be proud of any Ansar-Ud-Deen mosque we visit,” he said.

Human Rights Day: CAPPA Raises Alarm Over Worsening Rights Violations in Nigeria

Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa, CAPPA, has expressed deep concern over what it describes as the deteriorating state of human-rights protection in Nigeria.

This is just as it warns that worsening insecurity, abuses by state agents, and socio-economic hardship continue to erode citizens’ dignity and freedom.

In a statement issued to commemorate the 2025 International Human Rights Day, CAPPA attributed the situation to systemic governance failures and called for decisive action to end impunity for human-rights violations across the country.

The organisation noted that Nigerians are increasingly exposed to insecurity, state neglect, and abuses of power, resulting in widespread deprivation and unhealed trauma.

According to the statement, 2025 has been characterised by worsening rights indicators, citing reports of 570 killings and 278 kidnappings recorded in April, as well as 275,256 complaints received by the National Human Rights Commission in May.

CAPPA also highlighted persistent cases of abductions, attacks on schools and communities, and violations of women’s and girls’ rights, accusing the state of repeatedly failing to prevent or redress such incidents.

It further lamented that civil and political rights continue to come under pressure, with peaceful protesters allegedly facing lethal force and arbitrary arrests.

At least 24 unarmed citizens were killed during the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests, the organisation said, adding that about 69 attacks on journalists have been documented in 2025, 74 per cent of which were attributed to state actors.

“When those charged with protecting rights become violators, democracy itself is endangered,” CAPPA warned.

The group stated that millions of Nigerians continue to struggle without access to safe water, healthcare, decent housing, or secure livelihoods, noting that rising inflation, insecurity, and the absence of social protection have created humanitarian and human rights emergencies.

CAPPA urged the Federal Government and relevant institutions to adopt urgent reforms that safeguard civic freedoms, strengthen oversight of security agencies, and guarantee citizens’ safety and dignity.

It said International Human Rights Day presents an opportunity for the country to reflect on its obligations and recommit to building a rights-respecting society.

The organisation encouraged government, civil society, and partners to pursue practical solutions that rebuild trust, close protection gap,s and empower Nigerians to live without fear or deprivation.
