NAOSNP Commiserates with FG, Others on Death of Former President Buhari 

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP has commiserated with the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, Buhari’s Family, the government and people of Katsina State, the Nigerian Military and Nigerians in general on the death of a former two-terms democratic President and Head of State at one time, General Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, who died in a London hospital on Sunday 13th July, 2025. 

In a condolence statement signed by the Association’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Eric Elezuo, on behalf of the National President, Comrade Oki O. Samson, the Association acknowledged the former President’s hard stance on corruption, insecurity and how he became a symbol of due process during his time both as Governor of the North-Eastern State from 1st August 1975 to 3rd February 1976, Federal Commissioner of Petroleum and Natural Resources from March 1976 to June 1978, Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985 on one hand and president between 2015 and 2023, noting that he did his best as a leader, and deserves Aljannah Firdaus. 

“We note with shock and sadness the death of our former Head of State and democratic President, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, whose sad event occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the London Clinic, in England. He was 82 years.

“We extend our sincere condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and his entire cabinet, Her Excellency Hajia Aisha Buhari, Governor Dikko Umar Radda, the government and people of Katsina State, members of the Armed Forces and Nigerians in general as we all mourn a man, who is reputed as the architect of the war against all forms of indiscipline and corruption.

“We recall with nostalgia how his emergency as democratic President in 2015 made everyone in the public to sit up to their responsibilities, gave insurgents the scare of their lives, and made security, which hitherto was a scarce commodity to return.

“Buhari was a statement of immense ability, a soldier of fortune, a leader of integrity and an administrator with a human face. Nigerians of all creed will surely miss him. The political class, especially in the northern will miss and the military, which he served diligently since joining in 1962 will miss.

“We join Nigerians, and the entire world to pray that Allah forgives Buhari’s imperfections, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement reads.

The late former President, who translated from a distinguished military officer to a prolific politician is remembered mostly for his bravery in the military front and distinct attention to security welfarism, astute political decisions, proud family man and crystal clear friend to as many that has a very close relationship with him.

The Lagos State Government has emphasized the urgent need for public service accountants to adopt global sustainability practices in financial reporting and governance.

Speaking at the 15th Annual Public Lecture and Investiture of new executive members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Lagos State Public Service Chapter, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Audit, Mrs. Iyabode Ayoola, stressed that sustainable accounting is now a critical necessity.

The lecture, themed “The Future of Accounting Profession: What Every Public Service Accountant Must Know About Sustainability Accounting,” highlighted the growing relevance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in public finance.

Ayoola reiterated the state government’s commitment to capacity building and digital transformation in the public sector, stating that the integration of sustainable accounting practices is key to tackling climate, economic, and developmental challenges.

Also speaking at the event, the Accountant General and Permanent Secretary of Lagos State, Mr. Abiodun Muritala, called for a paradigm shift in the public sector. He urged accountants to be relentless ambassadors of good governance, transparency, and accountability to ensure a more sustainable and responsible future.

In her acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated 16th Chairman of ICAN Lagos State Public Service Chapter, Oluwatoyin Suarau, pledged that her tenure would be guided by empathy, integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Her predecessor, Florence Akinsola, noted in her welcome address that the role of accountants has expanded beyond traditional financial reporting, emphasizing that public institutions are increasingly integrating ESG principles into their operations.

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, and the Oniba Ekun of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulaimon Raji, as well as members of the ICAN Governing Council and other stakeholders in the accounting profession.

The lawmaker representing Oshodi Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olukayode Ogundipe, has pledged to uphold transparency, unity, and a renewed commitment to community service as he assumes office as the new President of the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun.

Ogundipe made the promise during his valedictory speech at the club’s leadership handover ceremony held in Lagos.

In his address, he outlined his priorities for the Rotary year, which include deepening impact across Rotary International’s Seven Areas of Focus, expanding partnerships, mentoring youth, and fostering stronger unity among members.

He expressed gratitude to members of the club for their trust and support, noting that his appointment was not merely a position of privilege, but a call to continue the legacy of excellence built by past leaders of the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun.

Ogundipe also lauded the club’s recent accolade as the Overall Best Club in District 9111 for the 2024–2025 Rotary year, describing it as a testament to the collective dedication of members, past presidents, and partners.

He paid special tribute to the immediate past president, Rotarian Bukonla Alamu, for her “visionary leadership, grace, and the strong foundation” laid for further growth and impact.

In her farewell remarks, Alamu urged her successor to lead with courage, vision, and passion, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the unity and service-driven spirit that defines Rotary.

Also speaking at the event, the outgoing Assistant Governor to the Rotary Club of Ewutuntun, Rotarian Bamidele Onolaja, encouraged Ogundipe to remain focused and uphold the club’s record of excellence.

A coalition of labour and media unions has accused the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr. Jibrin Baba Ndace, of victimizing staff and union leaders through arbitrary redeployments following internal demands for accountability.

The unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), jointly condemned what they described as a clampdown on free expression within the organisation.

According to the unions, the affected officials were transferred shortly after raising concerns over poor operational conditions at the Lagos office, which they said included worsening infrastructure, inadequate power supply, and staff welfare issues.

The coalition accused the VON leadership of responding to the internal complaints with “retaliation and official intimidation,” rather than addressing the problems raised.

They further alleged that the redeployment was a deliberate move to silence whistleblowers and union representatives who were performing their legal and civic duties to uphold workplace standards.

Describing the action as a threat to democratic values and industrial peace, the unions called on the management of VON to reverse the redeployments, respect the rights of workers to unionise and raise concerns, and ensure due process is followed in all administrative decisions.

They warned that continued targeting of staff who speak out could lead to escalated action across the labour community.

“We will not stand by while workers are punished for defending ethical governance,” a representative of the coalition stated, adding that broader solidarity actions may be considered if their demands are ignored.

Efforts to reach the VON management for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, GTCO has announced a change in the date of its 15th Annual Autism Conference.

The 2025 GTCO Autism Conference, originally scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 15th July, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, 16th July, following the public holiday just declared by the Federal Government in honour of the memories of the immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

While the conference will now take place as a one-day event on Wednesday, 16th July at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, the one-on-one consultations will proceed as earlier scheduled, from Thursday, 17th to Saturday, 19th July, at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

Themed “From Awareness to Action: 15 Years of Advancing Autism Inclusion,” the conference is the flagship event of GTCO’s Orange Ribbon Initiative and serves as a platform for engagement, education, and support for children and adults living with autism, their families, and caregivers.

Speaking about the initiative, the Group Chief Executive Officer of GTCO Plc, Mr. Segun Agbaje, stated: “The Orange Ribbon Initiative began in 2009 as our commitment to advocate for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and to support the families and caregivers who nurture them.
