The Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal syndicates operating across Lagos and Ogun states with the arrest of three suspects linked to motorcycle theft and the recovery of five stolen motorcycles.
The operation, coordinated under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, followed a petition dated April 12, 2026, detailing the activities of a syndicate allegedly involved in stealing motorcycles within Sagamu and Ijebu Ode areas of Ogun State.
According to the police, intelligence gathered revealed that the syndicate sold stolen motorcycles to buyers in Ogere, Ojodu Berger, Mushin, and other locations across the country.
Following the petition, operatives of the Zone 2 Dragon Team commenced surveillance and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network.
The operation culminated in the arrest of three suspects identified as Ibrahim Saliu, 26; Abdullahi Usman, 48; and Sulaimon Mohammed, 29, during an ambush around the Sagamu Interchange area on May 19, 2026.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ibrahim Saliu and other fleeing accomplices specialised in stealing motorcycles during late-night operations, usually between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Police said the gang reportedly towed motorcycles from where they were parked before forcibly unlocking the steering systems and manipulating electrical wires to start the engines.
Investigations further showed that the stolen motorcycles were subsequently handed over to receivers, including Abdullahi Usman and Sulaimon Mohammed, at designated meeting points around the Sagamu Interchange for resale.
Items recovered during the operation include three unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, one unregistered Daylong motorcycle, and one unregistered Lifan motorcycle.
The police disclosed that further investigations indicated that the syndicate and its accomplices may have stolen and sold about 50 motorcycles across the Sagamu and Ijebu Ode axis.
The AIG directed operatives to intensify efforts toward arresting other fleeing members of the syndicate and ensuring diligent prosecution of all suspects upon the conclusion of investigations.
Zone 2 Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining its fight against stealing and related crimes across Lagos and Ogun states.
