The incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been re-elected for a second term, securing a sweeping victory across all 21 local government areas in the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election.
The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling a total of 422,664 votes. His closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), garnered 99,445 votes.
The result was announced by the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, who described the process as peaceful, transparent, and credible. Local and international observers also commended the conduct of the polls.
Other results announced by INEC include: ADC (8,208), YPP (37,753), LP (10,576), PDP (1,401), APN (892), and ZLP (453), among others.
Governor Soludo’s resounding victory has been widely attributed to his impressive performance in office and transformative governance initiatives that have repositioned Anambra as one of Nigeria’s most progressive states.
Since assuming office, Soludo has anchored his administration on five key pillars: security; infrastructure and economic transformation; human capital and social agenda; governance and value system; and environmental sustainability.
Under his leadership, Anambra ranked first in BudgIT’s 2025 State of States Fiscal Performance Index, emerging as the best-performing state in Nigeria in fiscal responsibility and transparency, an achievement that earned commendation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described Soludo as a “progressive” and a long-time ally.
The governor’s achievements also span education, health, agriculture, and digital innovation. His administration has provided free education, built new schools, employed over 8,000 teachers, revitalised tertiary institutions, and constructed five new general hospitals, while introducing telemedicine and free maternal health services.
In the area of security, Soludo’s Homeland Security Law gave birth to Operation Agunechemba, a homegrown security network that has complemented existing agencies and significantly reduced crime rates across the state. The formation of Operation Udo Ga-Achi has further strengthened local enforcement efforts.
Governor Soludo has also empowered over 30,000 youths with digital and entrepreneurial skills and digitalised key governance processes to promote transparency and efficiency.
As he prepares to begin his second term, expectations remain high among residents that the governor will consolidate on his gains and deliver on his vision of making Anambra “a liveable, prosperous, and smart homeland.”
