A security expert, Professor Oka Martin Obono, has described the Lagos State Security Trust Fund’s, LSSTF Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme as a model worthy of adoption across Nigeria, as the Fund concluded the fifth edition of its two-day capacity-building programme for security operatives.
The training, held from July 15 to 16, brought together personnel from security and emergency response agencies across Lagos to strengthen professionalism, inter-agency collaboration and operational effectiveness.
Speaking at the opening, the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said continuous investment in human capital would remain central to the Fund’s security agenda.
According to him, the monthly training programme was introduced to complement the provision of logistics and equipment, stressing that security personnel remain the most valuable asset in safeguarding the state.
“I have five years to administer this organisation, and every month within that period there will be training for security operatives in Lagos. Investing in people must become a permanent feature of our security architecture,” Ogunsan said.
At the closing session, Professor Obono said modern security operations require emotionally intelligent and well-trained officers capable of balancing professionalism with effective law enforcement.
He noted that the programme equips officers with skills to manage stress, improve public engagement and enhance operational decision-making, while also exposing them to financial literacy for long-term welfare.
Describing the initiative as a strategic investment, Obono urged governments across the country to institutionalise similar programmes.
“This training is worthy of commendation and emulation by other state governments. Continuous learning remains the most sustainable response to today’s security challenges,” he said.
The programme ended with the presentation of certificates to participants drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Armed Forces, Nigeria Immigration Service, NSCDC, NDLEA, FRSC, Nigerian Correctional Service, LASTMA, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Lagos Taskforce, Marine Police, LAGESC, Man O’ War, PCRC and other security and emergency management agencies.
