Ogun State Police Command has issued a firm warning to unapproved transport unions and individuals engaging in unauthorized activities within the public transportation sector, declaring that such actions will no longer be tolerated.
The crackdown follows a communiqué issued by the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation, dated July 8, 2025, which clearly outlines the officially recognized unions and organizations permitted to operate and collect revenue in the state’s transport sector.
According to the communiqué, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) remains the authorized body overseeing operations for buses and taxis. The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) is also permitted to function in collaboration with Ogun Stations Operation Management Services (OSOMS) and the Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM).
For the motorcycle transport sector, the state recognizes the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), as well as the Articulated Motorcycle and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), and the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO).
In the tricycle category, the approved bodies include the Riders and Owners of Tricycle Organization (ROTO), the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN), and the Three Wheelers Operators and Riders Association (TWORA).
The police emphasized that any union, group, or individual operating outside these approved associations is considered illegal, and their actions constitute a threat to public peace and safety. Offenders will face swift enforcement actions including arrest and prosecution.
“Groups seeking legal recognition must go through the proper registration process with the Ogun State Government,” the Command noted.
The statement further reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the transportation sector, warning that any attempt to breach the peace will be met with the full weight of the law.
