To deepen international partnerships and promote Lagos as a global tourism and cultural destination, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has embarked on a working visit to the BBC Studios in London.
Benson-Awoyinka said the visit was aimed at exploring potential collaborations between the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, with a focus on content development, cultural promotion, and international media engagement.
The two-day engagement began with a visit to the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament, one of the world’s most iconic sporting events. The Commissioner highlighted Wimbledon’s global appeal as a case study in leveraging sports for tourism growth—an approach Lagos State is increasingly embracing.
This was followed by a tour of the BBC facility in Central London, where Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka engaged BBC executives in discussions around storytelling, cultural exchange, and showcasing Lagos’ creative economy to international audiences.
The Commissioner described the visit as “insightful and promising,” noting that potential collaborations with the BBC could open new avenues for showcasing Lagos’ rich heritage, vibrant arts scene, and growing tourism infrastructure.
