Ogun Police Rescue 11 Ghanaians Over Alleged Canada, Spain Visa Fraud

Police say eleven Ghanaian nationals have been rescued in Sagamu, Ogun State, after they were allegedly lured to Nigeria with promises of Canadian and Spanish visas and held against their will.

The victims, comprising seven men and four women, were rescued by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following intelligence received on October 19, 2026.

Preliminary investigations indicated that a fellow Ghanaian allegedly deceived the victims with promises to facilitate their overseas travel, collecting GH₵40,000 from each person before bringing them to Nigeria.

The victims were allegedly held at a hideout in Sagamu until police operatives acted on the intelligence and rescued them.

The rescued nationals are receiving care and support, while detectives are working to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged fraud and unlawful confinement.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its response and said the command would continue efforts to tackle transnational crime and protect people from exploitation.

He warned that the command would not provide a safe haven for criminals who exploit the hopes and trust of unsuspecting people.

The police urged members of the public to verify overseas travel and visa-processing arrangements before making payments and to report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.

The command said it would continue to rely on intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration to pursue suspected criminal networks.
