The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed an online report alleging a surge in cult-related activities across the state, describing it as “mischievous, misleading and baseless.”
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command faulted the publication on africalevel.com, insisting that it was riddled with falsehood and inaccuracies aimed at causing unnecessary panic.
Odutola noted that cultism in the state has been significantly reduced through intelligence-driven policing, community engagement and coordinated security operations.
She disclosed that more than 22 suspected cultists were recently arrested in various parts of the state, while others found culpable have been prosecuted and are serving jail terms.
She added that the much-feared annual July 7 Neo Black Movement anniversary passed without incident this year, owing to heightened police presence and proactive measures that ensured peace.
“These efforts have been widely acknowledged by traditional rulers and stakeholders, and they have greatly curtailed cult-related violence in Ogun State,” Odutola said.
The Command urged residents to disregard the online report, describing it as alarmist and inimical to public peace. It assured members of the public of its continued commitment to the safety of lives and property.
