The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered two suspects in Ijebu-Ode allegedly linked to a kidnapping and murder case in Edo State, recovering police camouflage and mobile phones during an ongoing intelligence-led investigation.
The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were arrested in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following investigations by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to the police, the arrests followed an earlier operation by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, who apprehended the suspects and handed them over for further investigation.
In a statement, the Command said extensive profiling and intelligence gathering revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with a kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State.
Preliminary findings further indicated that the duo are alleged members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident under investigation.
During the operation, detectives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The exhibits have since been documented and taken into custody to support ongoing investigations.
The Command noted that the alleged offences were committed outside Ogun State and disclosed that the suspects, along with all recovered exhibits, would be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the case, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and diligence of the operatives whose intelligence-driven efforts led to the identification of the suspects and recovery of critical evidence.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Ogun State does not serve as a safe haven for criminals or a transit point for unlawful activities.
Ojajuni also assured residents that the police would continue to strengthen public safety through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other state commands in combating crime.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at tackling criminality across the state.
