The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows and foiled a suspected abduction attempt in separate operations across the state.
The Command said the operations reflect its commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response and proactive crime prevention.
According to the police, operatives of the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, recovered six stolen cows and seized a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have been used by the syndicate.
The arrests followed a distress call received in the early hours of July 25, 2026, reporting that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and made away with seven cows.
Police operatives immediately launched coordinated patrols along identified escape routes and, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted suspicious vehicles on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
The operation led to the arrest of the two suspects, the recovery of six of the stolen cows and the seizure of the suspects’ operational vehicle, while one cow is yet to be recovered.
The Command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and ensure the prosecution of all those connected with the crime.
In a separate operation on July 26, operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team foiled a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The police said officers on routine confidence-building patrol responded after hearing gunshots in the area. Their swift intervention forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush.
The victim was rescued unharmed and escorted with his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and courage displayed by the operatives, describing the successful operations as evidence of the Command’s enhanced operational capacity and determination to tackle crime.
He assured residents that the police remain in control of the security situation across the state and would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and other tactical operations to protect lives and property.
Ojajuni also urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that all actionable reports would receive prompt attention.
