The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has launched its Management Information System, MIS File Tracker, with the pilot rollout commencing at the PTML Area Command as part of efforts to deepen digital transformation, improve administrative efficiency and enhance service delivery.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the initiative forms part of the Service’s broader modernisation agenda aimed at leveraging technology to simplify personnel administration and accelerate documentation processes.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, DCC Oluyomi Adebakin, the CGC described the deployment as another milestone in the Service’s drive to improve operational efficiency, strengthen transparency and facilitate seamless trade through digital innovation.
Adebakin reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to deploying technology-driven solutions that transform operations and improve service delivery, noting that the MIS File Tracker builds on previous digital initiatives such as the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System.
She explained that the MIS is an enterprise-wide platform designed to manage Customs administrative processes through a Single Sign-On (SSO) application, enabling a unified data system across all departments.
According to her, the platform will support key administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls and other personnel-related processes, while also providing channels for users to submit feedback for continuous improvement.
She added that the system is expected to streamline internal workflows, reduce manual processes and support data-driven decision-making across the Service.
The PTML Area Command, regarded as one of the most technologically advanced commands in the Service, was selected for the pilot phase, having previously served as the testing ground for major Customs digital initiatives, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu.
Speaking at the launch, Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the command’s ability to successfully implement the new platform and serve as a model for future deployments across the Service.
Miko said the command remains committed to maximising technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Customs management, adding that the rollout would further strengthen operational efficiency.
He thanked the Comptroller-General for the confidence reposed in the command and disclosed that PTML is working to reduce its current two-hour cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes to one hour.
The Acting Controller described the MIS File Tracker as a significant step towards sustaining the Nigeria Customs Service’s position as one of Africa’s leading customs administrations, assuring that the PTML Command would ensure the successful implementation of the platform from the pilot stage to full deployment.
