The National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS in partnership with the MOFE Foundation has announced the launch of a specialized Compressed Natural Gas, CNG conversion training programme for 500 polytechnic students across South-West Nigeria.
Blacktalker reports that the flag-off ceremony is scheduled for May 21, 2025, at Yusuf Grillo Hall, Yaba College of Technology, at 11:00 AM.
NAPS Southwest coordinator, Obasanya Monday Johnson, explained in a statement that the initiative is designed to equip students with hands-on knowledge and industry-relevant skills in CNG conversion technology, aligning with national objectives for sustainable energy development.
He noted that as Nigeria continues to explore alternative fuel options to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, CNG is increasingly being recognized as a viable and cleaner substitute.
“We believe that this training will not only enhance the skills of our students but also contribute to the growth of the energy sector in Nigeria,” he said.
Obasanya highlighted key features of the Programme to include the participation of 500 polytechnic students from institutions in the South-West region, a month of hands-on training conducted by industry experts in CNG technology.
Others are the inclusion of safety protocols, system design, and installation techniques in the curricula and the award of certificates of completion to all participants to boost employability.
On her part, Programme Manager at MOFE Foundation, Modupe Alao-Sanni noted that the collaboration between NAPS and the Foundation highlights the role of public-private partnerships in national development.
Alao-Sanni, who also highlighted the foundation’s educational and literacy initiatives, said beyond skill acquisition, the programme is expected to promote awareness of clean energy technologies among students, encouraging them to become advocates and innovators in sustainable practices.
“The MOFE Foundation is committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable energy solutions and empower the youth,” she said.
Speaking on the impact of the training, the CNG trainer, Engr. Babafemi Oluwaseun explained that the training is expected to significantly improve job readiness for the students in a competitive energy and automotive sector, increasingly shifting toward eco-friendly solutions.
He also lauded the collaboration between NAPS and MOFE Foundation, saying initiatives like this are critical in grooming a technically sound, environmentally conscious workforce.
