Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF has called for stronger intelligence sharing, ethical conduct and continuous professional development among security agencies, saying effective policing now depends on collaboration as much as firepower.
The message dominated the sixth edition of the LSSTF Statewide Inter-Agency Training for Security Operatives in Lagos, where the Fund also introduced free medical screening for participants for the first time.
Represented by Director of Administration, Mr. Adegbola Lewis, LSSTF Executive Secretary/CEO Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan said the training reflected the Fund’s commitment to developing the people behind security operations.
He said the programme, which began in March and will continue through December, would become a permanent feature of the Fund’s interventions.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Force CID Annex Alagbon, AIG Simeon Akpanudom, urged officers to embrace continuous learning, warning that criminals increasingly exploit technology and institutional gaps.
“The moment a security officer stops learning is the moment that officer begins to fall behind the criminals he or she is expected to confront,” he said.
Akpanudom also called for stronger inter-agency cooperation through joint intelligence analysis, coordinated operations and regular information sharing, adding that public trust is earned through professional conduct.
Representing the Maritime Police Command, DCP Udu Moses Ogechi said collaboration with agencies including the Navy, NIWA and NIMASA had helped reduce piracy, kidnapping and other waterway crimes, urging officers to strengthen intelligence links with local communities and maritime stakeholders.
The two-day programme also focused on the wellbeing of security personnel. Medical experts warned that prolonged stress and poor lifestyle habits increase the risk of hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease among officers.
Dr. Diya Ololade encouraged regular health checks, exercise, proper nutrition and adequate sleep, while Clinical Nutritionist Titilayo Akindele urged participants to monitor their blood pressure and blood sugar levels and adopt healthier eating habits.
The training concluded that competent officers, ethical leadership, intelligence-led operations and healthy personnel are essential to sustaining security across Lagos.
