Fidelity Bank Supports Over 1,000 Families in Kogi Through Food Bank Initiative

Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed essential food items to more than 1,000 families in Kogi State through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, as part of efforts to address food insecurity and support vulnerable households.

The outreach, held at the Youth Centre in Lokoja, is part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at improving livelihoods and creating positive social impact across communities in Nigeria.

Speaking at the exercise, Regional Bank Head, North Central II, Fidelity Bank Plc, Mrs. Blessing Onwumere, described the Fidelity Food Bank as one of the bank’s far-reaching CSR interventions since its launch in April 2023.

She said the initiative was established to reduce hunger, improve the wellbeing of underserved populations and demonstrate the responsibility of businesses to contribute meaningfully to the communities they serve.

“Today’s distribution will provide essential food supplies to over 1,000 beneficiaries. This initiative goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities, and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Onwumere said.

She appreciated the Lokoja community, the Abbasid Foundation and other partners for their support towards the initiative.

Representing Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya Faruk, commended Fidelity Bank for what he described as a demonstration of corporate citizenship.

He said the intervention, particularly its support for women and youths, complemented government efforts to improve the welfare of residents and called on other corporate organisations to emulate the initiative.

Also speaking, the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, described the intervention as timely, particularly for young people across the state.

He commended Fidelity Bank for its commitment to community development and expressed optimism about strengthening the partnership to benefit more youths.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Zainab Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the bank, saying the food items would provide much-needed support for her family.

Since its launch in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has provided food support to vulnerable households across Nigeria and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger and achieving food security.
