The Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF has pledged support for the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Lagos State Command, as part of efforts to strengthen community-based security operations.
The commitment followed a strategic meeting at the LSSTF headquarters in Ikeja between the Fund’s Executive Secretary, Ayo Ogunsan, and the Lagos State Commander of the Vigilante Group, Sesan Oguntunde, alongside other senior officials.
During the engagement, the vigilante leadership outlined the group’s operational structure nationwide and appealed for greater recognition within Lagos State.
Commander Oguntunde said the organisation is a voluntary body recognised at the federal level, noting that its members operate across several parts of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory.
He noted that although the group has worked with some local government areas in Lagos, it has long sought broader state-level support. He also assured that members hand over suspects to the police and are committed to accountable operations.
In response, Dr. Ogunsan expressed readiness to integrate the vigilante group more effectively into Lagos’ security framework. He announced plans to provide operational vehicles and possibly motorcycles, subject to demonstrated impact.
The LSSTF Executive Secretary emphasised the need for intelligence gathering, structured reporting, and unity within the organisation, while cautioning against internal factionalisation.
The meeting is seen as a move toward reinforcing community policing efforts and strengthening collaboration among security stakeholders in Lagos State.
