The Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire that occurred aboard the Igbega Eko vessel in the early hours of Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal, Ikorodu.
LASWA also said safety measures are being reviewed and implemented to prevent future occurrences.
The Agency made this known while providing an update on the nine individuals injured in the fire outbreak.
According to LASWA, all affected individuals, including passengers, LASWA personnel and LAGFERRY staff are receiving medical treatment and showing significant improvement.
”Six of the injured are currently being treated at the General Hospital in Ikorodu, where medical personnel are closely monitoring their recovery. Meanwhile, three others are receiving stable care at a private hospital. Fortunately, no life-threatening conditions have been reported.”
LASWA also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the well-being of all affected individuals, stating that it is working closely with medical teams to provide the necessary support.
“We commend the swift response of emergency services and appreciate the cooperation of the public during this period,” LASWA stated. “Our priority remains the safety of all waterway users.”
