LASWA Felicitates Waterways Users on Eid-el-Adha, Emphasises Safety Compliance

The Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA has extended Eid-el-Adha greetings to waterways users, operators, stakeholders, and Muslim faithful across Lagos State, while urging strict adherence to safety regulations during the festive period.

In a statement issued ahead of the celebration, the Authority advised commuters and boat operators to prioritise safety, especially amid the ongoing rainy season, which poses increased risks on inland waterways.

LASWA strongly cautioned against night travel on the waterways, citing reduced visibility and weather-related challenges that could compromise safe navigation. The Authority encouraged passengers to schedule trips during daylight hours and remain vigilant throughout their journeys.

The agency also urged operators to navigate cautiously, comply with operational safety guidelines, avoid excessive speed, and monitor weather conditions before embarking on trips.

According to LASWA, the use of life jackets remains mandatory for all passengers and crew members throughout every journey, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Blue Economy, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Adha celebration and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safer and more efficient waterways transportation across the state.

LASWA wished residents a peaceful and safe celebration, urging all waterways users to celebrate responsibly and adopt safety-first practices at all times.

For enquiries and additional information, the Authority advised residents to contact its official communication channels, including its social media platforms @talktolaswa.
