Lagos State University, LASU has honoured 10 student-athletes of its kickboxing team with medals and letters of commendation following their outstanding performance at the National Open Kickboxing Championship.
The presentation ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Sports Centre Conference Room, recognised the athletes for helping the university emerge overall champions at the competition with a haul of eight gold, six silver and five bronze medals.
The awards were presented by the Chairman of the LASU Sports Council, Professor Simeon Dosunmu, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. He was joined by the Director of the Directorate of Sports and Recreation, Mr. Idowu Owoyemi, and other senior officials of the directorate.
Speaking during the ceremony, Professor Dosunmu commended the student-athletes for bringing honour and distinction to the university through their discipline, dedication and outstanding performances.
He urged the athletes to remain focused and continue to uphold the values of excellence and sportsmanship in future competitions.
Also speaking, Owoyemi praised both the athletes and the coaching crew for their resilience and commitment, encouraging them to sustain the momentum and continue projecting LASU positively on the national stage.
The university said the recognition underscores its commitment to rewarding excellence and promoting sports development as a vital component of its academic mission.
LASU also congratulated the award recipients and the coaching crew, reaffirming its resolve to continue nurturing student-athletes capable of excelling both academically and in sporting competitions.
