The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has charged students of the Lagos State University, LASU to stand out and be different in a world where integrity is becoming a scarce commodity.
She made the charge on Thursday, 29th February 2024, at a one day Employability & Soft Skills Training programme organised by the LASU Career Development Centre (LCDC) in collaboration with YELS, SALTS and Ascentech Services Limited, held at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, main campus, Ojo, with about 500 students in attendance.
The VC, while speaking in relation to the theme, “Ethics for Career and Business Development,” urged the students to embrace healthy ethics to succeed in their chosen endeavors.
“At this time of social and economic uncertainties, where cutting corner and hitting sudden wealth has become very appealing to many young people, you must stand out and be different. Let people know you as a young man or woman with integrity. No matter how bad things have become, people still look out for integrity,” she said.
The VC, who was represented by Professor of Fisheries, Professor Morenike Adewolu at the event, praised the LCDC and its partners for putting the training together to prepare the students for the world of work and entrepreneurship after graduation.
In her welcome address, the Director of LCDC, Prof. Toyosi Durowoju, who was represented by Deputy Director at the Centre, Dr. Medinat Osundiya commended the university for approving the training, an evidence of the university’s commitment to the present and future wellbeing of the students. She further revealed that the training was organised in fulfilment of the Centre’s vision to chart the career pathways for students and provide employable and marketable graduates for national and global relevance.
Subjects on job search etiquette, introduction to ethics, ethics and career success and unleashing greatness through mind activation were masterfully delivered by facilitators drawn from partner firms, including Mr. Ayoolu Oni from SALT, Oyinade Brown and Opeoluwa Adefemi from Ascentech and Mr. Olumide Olushola from the Lagos State University.
Assistant Directors of LCDC, Dr. Kemi Ajilara and Dr. T. A. Akapo, as well as the programme Secretary, Mrs. V. M. Arewa and other members of the Centre were instrumental to the success of the training, which was also attended by several senior officials of the university.
