Lagos State University, LASU has condemned the assault of one of its students, clarifying that the incident involving a parent and a student occurred at a privately owned hostel outside the university’s campus.
The university said the students involved were members of its College of Medicine, LASUCOM in Ikeja, but stressed that the incident did not occur on university premises.
According to a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile, the assaulted student promptly reported the matter to the police, which has since taken appropriate action.
LASU Management has also commenced its own disciplinary proceedings against those involved in line with the university’s rules and regulations.
The university described the alleged assault as unacceptable, stressing that violence, intimidation and harassment involving students, staff or visitors would not be tolerated, whether within or outside its premises.
LASU said the incident was inconsistent with its mission of producing graduates who excel not only academically but also in character.
The university urged students to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid situations that could put their safety at risk and promptly report concerns to the appropriate authorities.
It also called on parents to engage constructively with the university, respect institutional boundaries and encourage their wards to uphold discipline and integrity.
LASU said it remained committed to the safety, well-being and academic success of its students and would continue to work towards maintaining a secure and conducive learning environment.
