Lagos State Police Command has halted plans for an unapproved Egungun festival in Oregun, warning individuals and groups against engaging in acts capable of breaching public peace or violating the law.
According to a statement from the Command, twelve suspects were arrested in connection with circulating handbills and posters on social media, attributed to a group called “Oje Parapo of Oregun.”
The materials reportedly restricted public movement and infringed on the fundamental rights and dignity of residents.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, stated that the festival, originally scheduled for 27th and 28th November 2025, posed risks to public safety and order, prompting its suspension.
“No group should take the law into their own hands and prevent others from moving freely across the State. The Lagos State Police Command will continue to protect the fundamental human rights of everyone in the State,” CP Jimoh said.
The Command emphasized that no festival capable of destabilizing peace or heightening tensions will be permitted under any circumstances. Similar action was taken in Mafoluku, Oshodi, on 23rd November 2025, where publications were circulated to incite public unrest, leading to arrests and ongoing investigations.
CP Jimoh warned that the full weight of the law will be applied to anyone attempting to undermine security or public stability, adding that the safety and security of residents remain a top priority.
