The Health Emergency Initiative, HEI has been named one of the twelve beneficiaries of the highly competitive NNPC–First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company, First E&P, Joint Venture 2025 Grant Award.
The announcement was made during an official award ceremony held at the Mövenpick Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos. The event was attended by top executives and senior officials from NNPC Ltd and First E&P, alongside key figures from the development and nonprofit sectors.
HEI was nominated for the award by the Sterling One Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Sterling Bank. The foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Peju Ibekwe, delivered a citation at the event highlighting HEI’s impact in the field of emergency healthcare and social intervention.
Representing HEI at the event was Dr. Emmanuel Imafidon, Chairman of the organisation’s Board of Trustees explained that the grant is expected to strengthen HEI’s operations in two critical areas: the provision of emergency medical support for indigent patients and accident victims and the expansion of its first responder training programmes in Lagos and Bayelsa States.
Founded with the goal of reducing preventable deaths in emergency situations, HEI has been active across Nigeria, partnering with hospitals, security agencies and other NGOs to provide urgent medical intervention when and where it is most needed. The organisation’s motto, “None should die,” reflects its core mission to make emergency healthcare accessible, regardless of an individual’s financial status.
Reacting to the award, HEI expressed gratitude to both NNPC–First E&P JV and Sterling One Foundation for their support and confidence in the organisation’s mission. The group noted that the grant would enhance its capacity to save lives and build resilient communities through timely response and preventive health education.
