The Nigeria Customs Service,NCS has celebrated Superintendent of Customs Nafisat Balogun following her achievement of obtaining a commercial multi-engine pilot licence in the United States.
Balogun’s accomplishment marks a historic milestone, making her the first female pilot in the Service, a field traditionally dominated by men.
The recognition ceremony, organised by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service, drew senior officers, management staff, and colleagues who gathered to honour her groundbreaking feat.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Customs Technical Hangar Service, retired Comptroller of Customs, Kuhi Mbaya, described Balogun’s journey as both inspiring and transformative.
“Our officer, Nafisat Balogun, has transitioned from being a cabin attendant to a fully-fledged commercial pilot. This is a great achievement not only for her but for the entire service,” he said.
Mbaya noted that her success sets a new precedent within the Service and reflects expanding opportunities for women.
“For the first time, we now have a female pilot in the NCS. She has set a record, and it is important that we celebrate and recognise this milestone,” he added.
He further encouraged women to pursue their ambitions, stressing that barriers are steadily being dismantled.
“This achievement shows that there are no limits. The glass ceiling has been shattered, and with determination and consistency, more women can achieve their dreams,” Mbaya said.
He also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for promoting gender inclusion and supporting officers within the Service.
In her remarks, Balogun expressed gratitude for the recognition and support she received throughout her journey.
“I am truly honoured and humbled by this warm reception. This journey has not been easy, but I am grateful for the support, encouragement, and belief shown in me,” she said.
She attributed her success to the backing of the Service’s leadership, particularly the Comptroller-General and management team.
Balogun reaffirmed her commitment to professionalism and excellence, pledging to continue serving with dedication and integrity.
Colleagues at the event described her achievement as a source of inspiration, noting that it opens new opportunities for women in specialised roles within the Service.
