The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP has launched the C.L.I.C.K.D, Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices Programme to provide affordable consumer credit for laptops and other digital devices, beginning with beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent, 3MTT Programme.
The initiative, unveiled on Monday at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre, AATC in Abuja, is a partnership between CREDICORP and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy aimed at expanding access to digital tools while promoting responsible consumer credit and local manufacturing.
C.L.I.C.K.D. is designed to remove the upfront cost of acquiring laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools, enabling more Nigerians to participate in the country’s growing digital economy.
The first phase of the programme targets fellows undergoing training on the Learn2Earn platform under the 3MTT Programme, many of whom lack access to the devices required to complete their training and transition into employment or entrepreneurship.
Implemented in partnership with Fidelity Bank as the credit administration partner, and NASENI and Imose Technologies as device manufacturers, the programme will provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible fellows nationwide. Seventy-seven beneficiaries in Abuja received their devices during the launch ceremony.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said Nigeria’s digital economy can only thrive when citizens have both the skills and the tools needed to succeed.
He said the initiative would enable more qualified Nigerians to benefit from opportunities created through the 3MTT Programme while supporting local manufacturing by prioritising locally assembled devices.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, described the initiative as the corporation’s flagship device financing programme.
According to him, embedding affordable consumer credit into the 3MTT Programme provides Nigerians with a responsible pathway to acquire the tools needed to learn, work and earn, while advancing the Federal Government’s industrialisation and job creation agenda.
Although the programme is being launched through the 3MTT initiative, CREDICORP said C.L.I.C.K.D. is open to working Nigerians nationwide and will gradually expand to cover additional categories of digital devices and connectivity solutions.
The corporation also invited more participating financial institutions, device manufacturers and technology vendors to join the initiative, adding that it would continue to collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria, training institutions and other strategic partners to scale device financing across the country.
