BLUE LAGOS PARTNERS LASHMA TO PROVIDE TELEMEDICINE SERVICES TO 152 RIVERINE, COASTAL COMMUNITIES

The Blue Lagos initiative and the Lagos State Health Management Agency, LASHMA have entered into a partnership aimed at improving access to healthcare services in Lagos State’s riverine and coastal communities through the deployment of telemedicine solutions.

The agreement was reached during a strategic meeting between the Convener of Blue Lagos, Mr. Saheed Adesanya, and the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, where both parties explored innovative approaches to delivering healthcare to underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

Under the proposed initiative, telemedicine services will be rolled out across 152 riverine and coastal communities, allowing residents to consult healthcare professionals remotely and access medical advice, referrals, follow-up care and other essential health services without the challenges associated with long-distance travel and transportation.

Speaking on the development, Adesanya described the partnership as a significant intervention that would help bridge healthcare gaps in coastal settlements across the state.

According to him, access to quality healthcare remains a fundamental right of every citizen, adding that technology-driven healthcare solutions offer an opportunity to bring medical services closer to residents living in remote communities.

He noted that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that people in riverine and coastal areas are not excluded from accessing quality healthcare services.

On her part, Dr. Zamba reaffirmed LASHMA’s commitment to expanding healthcare access and supporting initiatives that advance universal health coverage in Lagos State.

She stressed the importance of leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to reach vulnerable populations and improve healthcare delivery in communities where access to medical facilities remains limited.

The proposed telemedicine programme is expected to enhance healthcare outcomes, promote preventive care, reduce barriers to medical consultations and provide thousands of residents with easier access to professional medical support.

Both organisations also agreed to continue consultations on implementation strategies, community sensitisation, stakeholder engagement and partnership frameworks to ensure the successful rollout and long-term sustainability of the initiative.

The partnership aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader agenda of promoting inclusive development and improving the quality of life for residents regardless of their geographical location.

Blue Lagos, a development-focused platform, works with government agencies, private sector organisations and community stakeholders to promote sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, economic empowerment and improved living standards across Lagos State’s coastal and riverine communities.
