In a major boost to educational infrastructure in northern Nigeria, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, ASR Africa has donated a fully completed ₦250 million Administrative Block to Al-Qalam University’s College of Allied Health Sciences in Katsina State.
The project, commissioned on July 31, 2025, is part of ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS), which is aimed at bridging infrastructure gaps and fostering academic excellence across African tertiary institutions.
Since its launch, the scheme has supported 30 institutions with grants ranging from ₦250 million to ₦2 billion.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Vice Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, expressed gratitude to ASR Africa for the significant contribution. He described the donation as strategic, aligning with the university’s plans to expand into allied health programmes.
“This building will serve as a launchpad for our new College of Allied Health Sciences,” Yauri said. “We have already formalized partnerships with healthcare facilities across Katsina State to support clinical training for our students.”
Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, commended the university for its cooperation throughout the project’s execution. He noted that the synergy between ASR Africa and the university’s project management team was key to timely completion.
“We are proud of this collaboration and urge the university community to make the most of this facility,” Udoh said.
Representing the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, lauded ASR Africa Chairman Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu for his ongoing investments in education.
“Education remains a cornerstone of our development agenda, and we welcome this support from ASR Africa,” Faskari said.
The new administrative block includes furnished offices for academic and administrative staff, along with two fully equipped conference halls, and is designed to support the launch of degree programs in Nursing Science, Public Health, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Optometry, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
