The Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad across the state as schools resume academic activities, with the move aimed at strengthening security around educational institutions.
The deployment is expected to increase police visibility around schools, protect pupils, teachers and other school personnel, secure school facilities and improve the police response to emerging security threats.
The Command said the squad would also gather actionable intelligence and work with school communities to identify and prevent potential threats before they escalate.
As part of the initiative, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.
The delegation was led by the PCRC State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation among the police, school authorities, parents, students and community stakeholders in identifying, reporting and preventing security threats in and around schools.
Ojajuni commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working with the PCRC and other stakeholders to improve school safety.
He directed members of the School Protection Squad to remain vigilant, maintain regular engagement with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.
The Commissioner also urged school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities around schools.
He stressed the importance of early reporting, noting that timely security information could help prevent incidents.
The Command said the deployment formed part of its broader proactive and preventive policing strategy as schools resume across the state.
It urged residents to report school-related emergencies through the Gateway Shield Emergency Line on 08000009111.
The Command assured residents that the School Protection Squad, working with the PCRC and other stakeholders, would remain on alert to protect schools, prevent security threats and respond to emergencies across Ogun State.
