As commemorations continue to mark the fifth anniversary of the passing of renowned Nigerian televangelist and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Temitope Balogun Joshua, tributes have continued to emerge from admirers and followers across Nigeria and beyond.
In a reflective article titled “T.B. Joshua: Mystery of Divine Envoy That Will Continue to Elude Mankind,” writer Dare Adejumo described the late cleric as a significant figure in contemporary Christian history whose influence continues to resonate years after his death.
The article highlighted testimonies from individuals who said their perceptions of the late prophet changed following his passing. One such account came from Florence Olowokere, a Pentecostal Christian, who recalled feeling remorse over previous criticisms she had directed at the cleric after what she described as a personal spiritual revelation.
According to Adejumo, Joshua’s ministry was marked by his emphasis on faith, prayer, charity, and what followers considered extraordinary prophetic and healing ministries.
He argued that despite controversies and criticisms that surrounded the preacher during his lifetime, his influence on millions of worshippers around the world remained undeniable.
The writer portrayed Joshua as a strong advocate of Christian unity, recalling his repeated calls for cooperation among church leaders and his insistence that Christianity should be viewed as a relationship with God rather than merely a religion.
Adejumo also highlighted the humanitarian activities associated with Joshua’s ministry, including support for vulnerable individuals, assistance to Nigerians stranded abroad, and interventions in conflict situations.
He described the late cleric as a leader whose charitable works extended across continents and touched countless lives.
The article further praised Joshua’s widow and successor, Evelyn Joshua, for continuing the work of the ministry and sustaining the legacy established by her late husband.
Joshua, who died on June 5, 2021, remains one of Africa’s most prominent religious figures. Through his ministry, television broadcasts, humanitarian programmes and international outreach, he built a global following that continues to honour his memory.
As the fifth anniversary of his passing is observed, followers, supporters and members of the church have continued to hold prayer sessions, remembrance events and thanksgiving services in celebration of what they describe as his enduring spiritual and humanitarian legacy.
